You’re not alone. I see this shit and I say aloud “woww” and pass my phone to my partner. I’ve never seen such unhinged shit from the official white house communications team.

This is stuff any self-respecting 15yo would be embarrassed to post. I know they have been posting other cringey memes recently too. Seems like the person managing the account came straight from 4chan.

It also enables a few of the older features, like being able to read replies to a Tweet, now that the website formerly known as Twitter bars it if you’re not logged in.

Oh dear fuck i looked at it and they made a covid.gov site that claims that covid originated from lab in Wuhan and was leaked. That fringe conspiracy now being peddled by the white house.

That’s actually not unlikely, but the way china handles critical information we will never be sure.

I imagine they also have other false claims on there that are much worse though.

Yeah, it’s one thing to make it known that it is a possible explanation, it’s another to claim that it is a fact without evidence.

They’re throwing Trump supporters a mental gymnastics buoy they can hold onto in this horrible situation that clearly makes Trump look bad. They just want something to believe in that doesn’t conflict with their current political views. They don’t care if it is true or not.

One potential plus of the Trump administration is that its communication style inadvertently gets people to notice about institutional media what Chomsky has been discussing for decades.

I wouldn’t want to live in a country where mastheads and public offices are on the same page.

They might think this is edgy but it’s actually very damaging to the US. Not only will no other country ever take this administration seriously, but if the government breaks their own laws, then other countries will also feel comfortable breaking laws

MS-13 member according to which judge and jury? What exactly is he charged with? As long as we’re ditching the justice system, we the people might as well make some extrajudicial convictions too.

I had the same thought, this is so peak lib.

You’re there with the guy, and you have a court ruling saying facilitate his return. Do that, by cuffing him to yourself, and demanding they let you both walk away. El Salvador don’t want heat from abducting a US statesman.

But no, this is just a photo op it seems.

You’re embarrassed by the difference between performative politics for the press vs meaningful action to force change? Me too. If US democracy has any chance of survival we need far more of the latter, right away.

I do appreciate the idea of the handcuff thing, but they’d just cut it off or pick the lock.

Even if they don’t abduct him, they’d probably be more willing to rough him up.

Right, you the hero would cuff yourself to Garcia. Then the guards would simply stop you (possibly before you’d even manage to do it), unlock or cut the handcuffs if needed, forbid you from entering the country ever again if not outright prosecute you, and possibly put Garcia under even stricter control and isolation, to, you know, prevent having people try to get him out.

Because realistically considering the consequences is… liberal.

Implying that elections will have any meaning or impact next year

Nothing will “hurt” them unless there are consequences for their actions.
