Heyo! Just another random who’s moving over from centralized social media to the Fediverse. Mastodon wasn’t too bad but I love anything like Reddit!

Games, anime, Japanese, food, and music are my loves. Fanfic beats food tho, I can read for hours instead!

  • My comment is not personally directed at you, it’s just more about how everyone and their mom is talking about Nintendo’s recent decisions on piracy. Literally every tech/gaming community on Lemmy (and social media in general) is talking about it, and I’m tired of seeing it every day. I don’t mean to belittle you about your last console being the SNES, it’s just frustrating rhetoric that others have repeated because they truly seem to think Switch 2 is the only console doing this.

I understand what you mean about how someone who pirates probably would’ve never bought the game anyway, just like people (including me) who watch playthroughs of games that they never would’ve bought, hence tbe company was never gonna make money anyway. But even if companies know that fact, they’re not gonna just ignore people who break their ToS to pirate because they don’t want to lose money.

As you stated, you buy music of the stuff you originally pirated, and some game pirates might do that. But music has replay value compared to a lot of games. Once I finish a long RPG, there’s a very unlikely chance I’m picking it back up again, unless it’s many years later or it’s a hand-me-down to someone. If I pirated and played that type of game, I’m unlikely to buy it because why bother, other than to show support to the devs?

Companies don’t want to lose those who pirated and potentially would’ve bought the game. The whole point of piracy is that it has to be more convenient than buying the game, and since they know homebrewing can get to a very comfortable point, they don’t want to lose people to that.

  • Oh my god if I see one more “YOuR SwItCh 2 WiLl Be BrIckEd, NiNtEnDo iS aNtI cOnSuMeR!1!1!” post

Every fucking modern console with an internet connection does this. Switch 1 does this. If you hack your console, keep it off the internet. Brain dead easy. Furthermore, are we talking account brick/ban, or full hardware brick, because obviously they’re going to brick your account for online play, because hackers. If it’s a hardware brick (without being on the internet), then that would suck (but is not surprising, obviously duh Nintendo doesn’t want to lose money).

People will figure out how to hack Switch 2, give it a few years. Emulators of varying quality will be made, and will be of good quality eventually.

If you don’t want Switch 2 for the price, don’t buy it. Simple as that.

  • Oh boy, can’t wait to see this garbage on my Samsung Tab 9. My mom upgraded me from my dusty, way beyond eol Kindle Fire that I had, cause I I really do on it is watch YT and read/web browse. Was excited, until I realized I couldn’t custom ROM it like my precious Pixel.

Like another comment said, Samsung/One UI is truly the Apple of Android, and it’s dogshit. So much bloat that I had to disable/delete, random UI changes that oversimplify/water down personality, stupid settings I will literally never use, etc.

The best I could get is a stock Android GSI, but I’m not sure if potential bugs and battery life issues would occur, and I don’t want to root.

  • My parents let me be interested in things, but they would absolutely force me to finish things until their period ended, or force me to do at least another year of the activity. So I did a season of soccer before I realised I hated it and only liked softball, and I was thankfully forced to do another year of orchestra in 6th grade, making me realize I loved it and wanted to continue instead of dropping.

I was forced to keep doing dance another 2 years despite hating it by the end unfortunately, but I’m not too upset by that.

  • Yeah the Nintendo vitriol for the past month has been funny. I get it, companies are not our friends, and Nintendo has done a lot of shit to be mad at. The game keycards are dogwater, but this concept of buy cartridge and download the rest is not new. Sony and Xbox have literally done the same shit for years, and Nintendo did this with some large games on Switch 1.

Another comment showed Sony will brick hacked consoles that get on the internet. Switch 1 also does this.

The price sucks, but it’s definitely tariffs, since the console is like a whole hundred dollars cheaper in Japan.

If you wanna pirate/emulate, pirate/emulate. I just don’t like pirating current gen consoles, and it’s a hassle to do so on Switch 1 if you got a newer one. Plus switch emulation on steam deck seems to be iffy for some games… I pirate/emulate old consoles cause they’re dead and they’re not making money on them anyway. Sometimes you just want to buy a game and enjoy them, especially for online ones like Splatoon.

I’ll just wait for the price to be reasonable one day.

Had a highschool teacher who put up these posts every class on the projector and did wordle or connections with us as a warm up, and I would’ve loved to see this.

Guess I’m feeling 2. Not bad, falling apart a little bit and got a banana peel on my head from falling in the trash, but still okay.

  • Before they went all out nuclear with ads, promoted content, shops, and AI slop, I was using Pinterest a shit ton to look at fanart and memes (mostly stolen/reposted art, but real human art at least). I’d be on there for an hour or so every other day tbh, I liked making boards of my fixations and shit.

Then the app went to hell a few years back and I ditched it, because the web version sucks, and I didn’t know about LibRedirect instances. Now I just don’t bother with the place anymore.

  • God I have rolled my ankle a shit ton doing physical activities and simply walking, to the point both feet have rolled several times, and to the point where I needed physical therapy. I am fucked on uneven terrain, and even when walking in my house on kitchen tiled floor I have rolled and tripped.

Physical therapy at least made it so it doesn’t hurt anymore when I roll, and I’m not out of commission for the next hour.

I’m not even of legal drinking age, I’ll probably die by falling down the stairs at 50 or smth.

LibRedirect + Libreddit instances is fantastic.

Honestly, Reddit is one of the few services that can be redirected easily now. Invidious, Freetube, NewPipe, etc. is constantly being nuked by Youtube, and while Twitter redirects are still alive, they were dead for a short period, ProxiTok never works, nor does Proxigram instances…

  • VMs are a good way to dip your toes, but honestly, doesn’t hurt to boot from a USB and try that way too. That’s how I checked of Fedora, which I stuck with and now dual boot with. I rarely go to my Windows partition unless there’s something I have to do that can’t be done on Linux.

I don’t touch terminal often, and I use Fedora Silverblue, which is immutable, making it harder for me to fuck up my system somehow. I have used the rollback feature due to updates with the kernel breaking bluetooth, so there’s the bright side of rollback distros.
