  • OK, that’s a fair assessment of what it does. The article doesn’t delve into its function much and I haven’t had to use one with RCM access.

However, as I precisely stated, these carts offer more typically than just rom loading. From my memory of DS carts they could do music playback, emulation, alternate desktop etc. There are more for use cases being piracy, but I’ll leave that as it is. People do dump their own keys. I have backups or my own carts for sanity sake.

Ultimately, the problem you described is relevant to people who still go online. In the world of non conformance that is a 100% never a recommended option. So they may be using something to payload available keys, but you can always still payload your own generated keys. To me this is still a boohoo Nintendo got reverse engineered story.

Just to add - go play your Pokémon blue/red yellow/silver/gold and let me know how those carts held up.

  • It’s a shit situation and a bad ruling imho. I understand Nintendo wants to keep its ips profitable. But this is an inepependant product to modify something you have already paid for. Whether that use is for piracy or general “side loading” should be irrelevant. It’s not Nintendos place to tell you how to use what you’ve paid for. This could open a different can of worms legally. And if Nintendo was so concerned, they should have auth signed real carts. To let any random cart with proper pin configuration to work is on them. You can’t just burn ps5 games and hope it works.
