During the Vietnam War there was a coming together of the anti-war dove protesters, the “we don’t want to be drafted and shot” crowd, black rights (who were also suffering disproportionately in the war), and gay rights (also brought to a point from the war). Together these blocks, with their overlapping goals, were a big enough force to start getting things done across the board. Unfortunately, as soon as the war ended and white boys weren’t getting shot anymore, that whole section quit and left the blacks and gays to twist. Data centers effect everyone in the county/parish/state/co-op/consolidated district/etc. Even a MAGA will stand next to a black trans communist with a NIMBY sign if it effects them enough. Eventually the data centers will get shut out of an area or get enough of what they need that they settle down. Then all the people with no other troubles will wonder off and leave the other groups to fight their own corners.

It was maybe twenty years ago we were first hearing about this because so many young white men in conservative areas were doing opioids that the local employers had to give up. Once enough conservative weed smokers were voting, that started to legalize and be commonly used. Drivers for the conservative drug turn includes the war on terror and the failures of the VA, and the war on affordable healthcare and social services. Before that, the war on drugs was on the record as being aimed at Mexicans, blacks, and liberals. Also teenagers, but I don’t recall any federal government politicians saying that one out loud.
