    But seriously this is good news and I’m glad to have you all here. Lemmy is in a pretty good position right now in terms of having a critical mass of users and decent traction within popular communities. At the very least it feels self-sustaining here.

    I can’t remember one instance of a company being bought out and then made better by investors. That’s why I came here. I just don’t like people like that. I hate how everything is about money.

    One of my largest pain points with Lemmy is that there are multiple active communities for the same topic, causing quite a few duplicate posts to show up in my feed that is difficult to filter. Hopefully there comes some kind of solution, outside of userbase, this is (what I believe) one of the larger issues compared to Reddit.

    However, I still switched over to Lemmy for my primary ‘Reddit’-needs.

          So, Verse as competitive, verse as poem, verse as conversation…i think it fit lemmy/mbin/nodeBB/piefed perfectly :)

            The thing is no one is actually forced to use their websites, we can all leave at any time when it’s no longer worth it. This means that we have all the power since those websites are nothing without their users and the content they post. You are also right that the diversity and quality of software offerings can only go up and we see this happen even with rather low user numbers. Imagine what the world could look like when corporations are unwelcome nuisances

        • a fork of Thunder : Pferd. (only for testing and i love its logo)
        • Interstellar, they want to support Piefed

You have a .ee account so you only have to worry about .ml, but on Lemmy you can do a personal instance wide block if you’d rather just not deal with them.           The equivalent to a Reddit “sub” is a Threadiverse “community” (Threadiverse or Forumverse, or maybe just Verse now?, anyway meaning the subset of the wider Fediverse, so like the latter includes Mastodon but the former is only the community-based Lemmy, Mbin, and PieFed).

          The anarchy & communism instances are slrpnk.net and lemmy.dbzer0.com. Beware the fake communism, “tankie” triad of hexbear.net (or wherever they moved to, after they forgot to renew their own domain name), lemmygrad.ml, and lemmy.ml. Actually the former 2 should be defederated from you on Lemmy.world already, while the latter is sometimes okay, yet also batshit insane at the same time. You’ll see… and if you ever forget to follow one of their entirely unwritten rules (not kidding), you’ll be banned from every community on the entire instance, including those you’ve never even heard of.

            they managed to keep the domain in the end, I think they transferred to a different DNS landlord

            Also it’s not fake communism, it’s pretty normal for anyone outside of terminally online circles, like I’m active in anarchist organizing and I’ve had plenty of comrades who would get called a tankie by you lot like it’s some thoughtcrime

          Trying to shore up against .ml brigading, before I was instance-banned so .ml users couldn’t see my posts n stuff. Then 2 months later, totally not coinciding with a recent meme I posted, davel was so kind as to fix that and only manually ban me from .ml comms individually so that .ml users could see and brigade my posts and comments again

          The admins and mods of .ml are huge Tankies and censor all content critical of China/Russia/NK and will deny they’re even dictatorships let alone that they enforce censorship or any other violation of basic human rights

          !meanwhileongrad@sh.itjust.works has a bunch of content documenting what they get up to that you might miss if you’re not in the modlog, but ironically for a group that complains about censorship they block that comm from all .ml users at the instance level so you’ll have to look at it in a roundabout way.

              Haha yea! That one sentence probably would have got you banned if you said it on a .ml comm

              If you don’t want to deal with them, lemmy.cafe is one instance that defed’s from the entire triad (Hexbear.net and lemmygrad are the other 2 major Tankie instances, but they’re even worse than .ml, so most instances defed from them including .world)

              If you don’t mind fighting against them though .world, .ee and the excellently named sh.itjust.works all fed with .ml, but not the other 2

                  They defed with Hex and Grad, I think they’re partially defed’d with .ml they seem to defed some of .ml’s subdomains but not the main .ml domain

                  In general .ca is an excellent instance for Canadians, especially if you’re looking to support Canadians, it’s all hosted in Canada with Canadian business

          The admins have a long history of banning people across the entire instance who are critical of China, North Korea, Cuba etc. That said, you should be fine and if you’re happy with the instance then there’s no reason to move. Some users like to make a bigger deal out if it than it really is.

          The “ml” in the domain is supposed to represent “Marxist Lennist” which the ideology the instance is aimed at.

    Lemmy is the only federated service I actually enjoy using. Just missing being able to block an entire @something instead of having to block every single community of it

    and no I do not want to “choose another host that does block it”, it should be a user choice.
