To any Australians, Europe is in total anarchy, expats are out pricing natives on the housing market and gentrifying cities while living in their own expat shadow society. They don’t even integrate, they don’t respect the local culture and you can’t even speak the native language in many yuppie neighborhoods anymore. smh.

The point i was making but it doesn’t need explaining if you (want to) think about it.
This is what made me reply:

          Have a nice day.

Okay fine even if the housing market problem isn’t the fault of expats, that they don’t want to be part of the local community and don’t even learn the local language is just straight up disrespectful. Why move abroad then? And I’m not asking them to speak the local language at a high level. They even refuse to learn the basics. I know many expats who live here in the Netherlands for more than half a decade and they can’t even string a basic sentence together. And these are people who pride themselves for being educated and having master degrees. It’s just elitism, they don’t see themselves as immigrants so they feel like integrating is beneath them since that’s what immigrants do. If these were brown working class immigrants people would call them out immediately for their lack of effort, yet because these are white high educated expats it’s somehow okay. And before you say “but their kids will learn the language” Nope these elites even feel the public education system is beneath them so they send them to private international schools where they barely learn Dutch. So even their kids can’t speak Dutch. I’m a son of immigrants and my parents had to work hard to integrate and learn the language and fight for respect and their place in the community. That these expats don’t give a shit about it all and everyone thinks that it’s fine is just a slap in the face of immigrants like my parents.

              On that we agree.
On society’s perception: if you’re rich you’re an investor (or educated expat), if you’re poor you’re an immigrant.

I imagine it’s far right propoganda to distance their viewers from considering views coming from France/Spain to be reasonable, and wanting them to listen to views coming from elsewhere that agree more with their rhetoric. The only real article Ive seen from them was about criticizing their own ambassador because “Trump doesn’t like him.”

It’s Rupert Murdoch (and his bastard spawn Lachlan), owner of Fox News, The Sun, Sky News Australia, and more. The master of misinformation, sensationalism, and ragebait. He’s been doing this everywhere for such a long time now.

It’s not even really that good. It’s just everywhere. Flip on your TV, turn on the radio, pop open a browser, and you’re hit with a legion of professional reactionaries screaming “Whitetopia Has Fallen! Brown Menace End Times Are Upon Us!”

There is no longer anything resembling “normal” news. It’s just wall-to-wall cop worship, racism, and crime hysteria.

Same in Sweden, and thank fuck for that. I can’t handle 28C+, it’s just uncomfortable. The past 4 days have been over 30C but today it’s been 23C at most with several short bursts of rain with thunder. A few were right over my apartment so I’ve really enjoyed opening a window and sitting by it with a cup of tea just listening to the rain and thunder, and then when it fades away the birds start singing, so damn cosy!

Nope, it’s serious. Sky News Australia is owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp, which explains the far-right lunacy that it is known for.

Sky News UK is owned by Comcast, and is generally considered to be a much more professional and respectable news outlet. Not perfect, but more BBC than Fox News.

We had similar shit years ago when Americans thought Europe is communist. Or years later when Americans thought Sweden became a Muslim state. Or any other bullshit a 12 year old or someone with the mind of a 12 year old believed in the last decades.

And every time the epicentre of stupidity is Rupert Murdoch. No wonder they love Russia. Both are masters of making up insane bullshit.

Australia also runs concentration camps for refugees on remote islands with practically no legal oversight. The Aborigines were considered part of the local “fauna” until the 1960s.

Australia gets way to less flak for how deeply deeply racist that country is.

I feel obligated to provide some context here.

Australia certainly is, like most countries, “deeply racist” but exactly what that means and how we compare to other countries is contentious.

Calling immigration detention facilities “concentration camps” is disingenuous and has connotations that dont apply. At last count in 2021 there were 107 residents, all of whom could leave at any time, and were provided multiple resettlement options outside of Australia.

There are criticisms to be made but they are not “concentration camps”.

The fauna thing is an obvious myth that doesn’t withstand a moments critical though. There’s a more comprehensive rebuttal here:

        https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-03-20/fact-check-flora-and-fauna-1967-referendum/9550650

Australia does have deeply embedded tensions around race. They’re not easily solvable problems. Are more salient example might be the recent rejection of the voice referendum, but that would take more than a few moments to read and understand.

But that is not an issue unique to one race. Pakastanis who live in the northern territory do not have meaningful representation. Should they get a bespoke group of representatives too? What about Sweedes? Or Brazillians? Or white Australians?

See I can be hyperbolic too.

Funny as I live in Manchester, a major city and I see great schools and lots of integration. After all it’s the ex-pats who came to live here that clean up after riots and bombs, not us natives.
