I got too far in the article to not hear about people possibly mass reporting the pic. I don’t want to hear people on social media and how they think it’s censorship, zuck sucking trump, whatever.

Oh fuck, I read the entire thing and it never even mentions it. Maybe I need to finish my coffee but it seems like kids just don’t realize you can abuse automated systems, or if you can, that it’s not automatically a deliberate attempt to censor their ideas. It’s too hard to imagine with “but it’s meta! Zuck bent the knee!” screaming in your mind’s ear.

      Continue to not use Facebook/Instagram.

I switched to Lemmy when Reddit came out in support of people who abuse children. I don’t even mean Trump, I just mean in general. I suggested abusers in general should face harsher penalties. They banned me for it. I said “holy shit you just did me a huge favor, apparently I was on the wrong site because our values are 100% incompatible.”

I mean, there isn’t even a debate. I’m not talking about people who find themselves attracted to kids. I’m talking about people who actually went out and hurt a real child facing longer, more meaningful sentences and they said nah, those people are people and need to be protected.

I’ve moved social networks on account of incompatible values and I think others will, too. Maybe not the majority but I think some others will. Especially as things get worse. There are networks for people who hate (like Truth Social), and networks for people who don’t care (like Facebook/Insta/Whatsapp), but I think as things change, more people will care and will look elsewhere. Not everyone but some people.

Most people will continue and have continued to use the same big name social media, and expecting different from gen x and older is foolish. And these are still massive blocks of politically important people. Never mind the swarths of people in younger generations who will and are falling for the same dumb shit.

Meta is actively pursuing government contracts for uses of its supercomputer it’s putting online next year and it’s AI investments. They are becoming a defense contractor essentially. To acquire contracts during this regime, I’m sure they will give any backdoor and facial recognition assistance the Pentagon asks for.

Being redundant to say this. People are actively posting pictures of themselves, their families, and their locations continuously and sending them to a government defense contractor. Posting their activities, hobbies, who they interact with, their food, et cetera.

If things news companies cared about people’s privacy, they would be broadcasting that on every network warning the population in my opinion. But that would piss off the U.S. government, and they don’t want that.

Why is the leftist approach is to platform the opposition while the rights approach is to overwhelm the space until it does what they want?

          Neither.

Both sides have money. In fact the left has much more money than the right.

We’re not even talking about big money here. The average right leaning person will give a dollar to any thing they agree with. The left mull over the morality and ethics of a thing until it passes then they say “well I would punch a Nazi if I ever needed to” but they can’t even muster the energy to read a comment they disagree with.

Look at the donations given to random assholes who said something anti vaccination. Millions of donating poured in. Look at that women that yelled racial slurs at kids in a park. Millions.

I saw Jon Stewart posted here the other day and the comments were calling him a fascist.

          We’re fucking done.

I asked which approach requires more money, not who has more. You said the left doesnt want to spend that money, ok. Maybe the mass of liberals collectively has more money, maybe. Not the left though. And the network cooperation part? Which agendas are being priviledged by the recomendation algorithms in social medias?

What is the money doing? It does what we do for free. The algorithm favoured the right because they create content. It’s not a finger on the scale saying show people more right wing stuff. It’s the the right share and create content because they actively engage and participate online rather than sit in the sidelines. But the left wing causes and political parties see more donations than the right on average.

Democrats are able to raise more capital. Left leaning voters earn a higher Average income than right leaning. There’s money on the left we’re just less effective and more apathetic.

There is a finger on the scale though. Youre underestimating its weight. When we disagree on the “left” having money and sharing stuff, etc, i think we actually just disagree on who is the left. In my view, the left is probably a smaller group than in your view. This smaller group i consider left doesnt have much money, and does get a diminished voice in social media despite engaging a lot (relative to its demographic proportion).

I would argue you marginalizing the left into a smaller group is pretty beneficial to the right and you might want to view it critically. Like if you were the right with a lot of money and effort in astro turfing and targeting the left online then maybe you have succumbed to something they may have pushed. How would you know either way?

Something interesting to me is how the left takes these things on the chin. In these comments there are lots of comments like “yea well they all do this”. Compare that to the right during covid who would take screenshots and make sure everybody knew this was happening and not only that it was happening but how this would lead to dystopian authoritarian rule that threaten each and every person. I see this over and over again with each and every opportunity to show people how bad things are getting. But instead we snuff out these things ourselves and just move along.

The left have no bite. They are all bark

Yes, clearly the handful of people with no power that advocate for Socialism or Communism are what is wrong with our country now.

I think you are confused and are perhaps really wondering why centrists keep getting moved to the right.

Both dominate political parties in the US are fascist in nature. You have the authoritarian fascists and you have the neolib fascists.

Picking on the left is just a convenient scapegoat at this point. It is low hanging fruit and is pretty pointless.

The dichotomy between the left and right on these kind of issues are probably more economic than anything else.

The people I know that freaked out about these sort of things were typically maga types. Lower income, lower education, and relied on social media for all kinds of news, human contact, and such.

Meanwhile most liberals and conservatives that didn’t, lived more comfortably with higher career and education levels. This isn’t even really a left wing vs right wing kind of thing. Even the conservatives I knew that had higher education and career accomplishment freaked less out about Covid and social media “censorship” too because they could just do without.

If you can live comfortably and it doesn’t affect your living, you tend to not rock the boat

Yes I agree with what you’re saying. But the left has to adapt or its finished. For all the talk of intelligence and how dumb the right are goes out the window. That’s because even with the money and the power, the people on the right had enough awareness to know when to lean into something even if they didn’t agree and when to pull back. The left do not. People keep saying they don’t understand how people can ignore Trump’s dumb bullshit. It’s because they don’t actually like Trump. The left doing understand this. Trump is giving them victory after victory. It’s not about Nazi or fascism or any of that. It’s about winning. The left have placed to many barriers to winning that something basic like Gavin Newsom mocking Trump is seen as amazing. That should have been the approach 10 years ago. Instead people focused too much on calling him a racist directly. You have to show not tell.

The left are so anti left that they’re regressing so rapidly that women can’t even get an abortion anymore. Their excuse is “money”. The actually cause is that the average leftist is dumber then the average person on the right. They’re on average less effective. The past decade is more than enough proof of this. I don’t care what you’re going to reply with because I know it’ll be some sassy comment to make you feel better. But it’s not going to change fuck all. The left is fucking cooked.

Yes because the right mobilized and overwhelmed the sites with complaints. Add to this the mass cancelling that created panic in any celebrity made them all support each other. So now you had Joe Rogan bringing Zuckerberg on and really drilling home how problematic the left was and how they needed to stop it. The left went full toxic ex girlfriend. They were keying cars and lighting fires everywhere and never understood why nobody wanted to associate with them.

I never saw any cars getting keyed near me. I actually don’t have any political messaging on my truck because I’m worried about my mirrors getting smashed though. I think you’re living in a fantasy world created by your social media bubble.
