Palworld is a AA game, they had outside funding ala Sony, they are not a full indie studio. They are in-between. This is well known.

Edit: This is also not equivalent at all. Have you seen Sony chip in on the Nintendo v palworld case? They don’t have a stake in it even remotely. Pocketpair stands by themselves, them getting funding by Sony is highly irrelevant.

Im not sure you understand how companies work. Which is okay you don’t have to. But Sony, a super company does not actually have a stake in 99% of the things it invests in. It throws money at stuff for a multitude of reasons then wipes it hands. The thing existing at a particular time helps them the money and stakes are irrelevant.

                  https://www.ign.com/articles/palworld-dev-signs-deal-with-sony-to-form-palworld-entertainment-and-expand-the-ip

Basically Sony wanted Palworld on Playstation and probably knew pocket pair would fight Nintendo, this gave them a chance to watch from the sidelines. Also Aniplex was a big part of this deal, unsure how much. Sony doesn’t own the ip, and cannot tell pocket pair what to do. These two things are literally mountains apart, since Sony cannot do anything with palworld.

I thought the 250m was fake news?

      Edit:

According to video game podcast host Colin Moriarty, citing an unnamed Concorddeveloper, the game had development costs of $400 million, although this figure was disputed by several PlayStation developers on social media.

Reacting to the game’s reported development cost of $400 million, Christopher Dring, head of GamesIndustry.biz, questioned media reports that took the figure seriously: “No game has that dev budget. The press reports are the laughing stock of the industry. Concord didn’t even get any above-the-line marketing spend.”

IANAL but, just because they abandoned the game doesn’t mean they don’t own the IP. It’s still their IP and unfortunately IP laws everywhere suck ass. IP law only works if you defend your IP. If you don’t defend it then it can weaken IP protection on other IP you own. Even if you don’t actively use the IP you still need to defend it to keep up protection on your other IP.

so why pay a lawyer to sew?

I hate to be that person but just in case you wanted to know, it’s spelled sue.

      • sew: to unite or fasten by stitches

      • sue: to seek justice or right from a person by legal process, specifically to bring an action against

Fuck me I can’t go two days in a row without a spelling mistake! Also don’t apologize, I would rather be embarrassed once now, than potentially infinitely in the future!

BTW, to answer your original question: just because someone is a lawyer doesn’t mean that can’t also know how to sew. I wouldn’t be surprised to find a darning egg or two in a legal professional’s briefcase. They do have to wear fancy suits, after all.

So they invest millions in a project that fundamentally failed, ax the official servers prematurely and pretend it doesn’t exist.

But then go after people who still bother with it.

They ought to be fucking thankful people still play it at all.
