When do we chop back fruit trees? And when can we do autumn fertilising and planting? What can we do in March to get our gardens thriving?

Our plums come through about mid October, for a 2 week harvest. SE metro. Plum-o-rama.

I don’t know best time to cut, but now(March) would be good, so as to not interfere with the fruiting. Cut the inaccessible high branches down to around 2.5m high, unless you are planning to pick from a ladder.

I’m not sure either, but I just cut mine back a week ago and they’re looking good with lots of new growth already.

One thing I’ve run into re online gardening is the northern vs southern hemisphere thing. Eg, US & UK are just coming into spring, while we’re just going into autumn.

So, when an article says “Prune in September/October”, make sure you check and know where the source is from. It may be completely 180 degrees/6 months wrong.
