Yeah it was super disappointing living in the UK and all the coffee shops and bakeries within walking distance were these crap chains. Often across the street from each other

You yelled about my bags because they where not an item i scanned how the fuck are you now asking me if i used any bags. Fuck the machines.

There is no such thing as shoplifting sandwiches. Nobody saw it. It didn’t happen. This is the code we all should abide by until social security improves.

That is great and all, but now because of the increase in theft you are going to see more products locked behind the counter. Welcome to the low trust society you took part in creating.

Shoplifting was rife in the 90s and 2000s, and it was an acceptable business loss that most small business and retailers alike just shrugged off.

This new narrative that shoplifting is the reason that security measures and prices have to go up is just the latest strategy in corporations once more fobbing off blame on the end-consumer (a la “carbon footprint”) for why they need to jack up prices again.

It’s greed, plain and simple. We used to have high trust soceities and rampant shoplifting not too long ago, but we’re being distracted once again

Increase in rent prices, in loans, increase in costs of electricity, services - and of course food. Not to mention shrinkflation, cutting out nutrition and putting in more filler, etc.

And so the grosser monopolies woke up to smell their own coffee and make cashiers glorified security guards - without the benefit of added pay.

They screw us in any way, shape or form they can.

Cashiers are rarely permitted to do anything about shoplifting for what it’s worth. When they do (and why you would I don’t know) they often get disciplined or fired. And the labelled as jobsworths by the gutter press when they follow “company procedure”.

It’s basically the breakdown of the social contract, as engineered by a small group of people and then blamed on the rest of us.
