I have literally hundreds of pics of Morty and his friends. Morty was a rescue who has mostly been re-wilded, but still stops in to say hello once in a while. And sometimes he brings friends.

I’d give additional protein, but otherwise if one is choosing to feed a raccoon, at least you are giving it decent items!

Also, I haven’t tried it with raccoons, as I don’t work with them too much, but I’ll scramble the eggs in the microwave with the shells crushed up fine in it to try and sneak in that calcium when I feed the opossums.

Here’s some raccoon feet. I failed my rabies titer so I’m stuck on the outside of the fence right now.

      All great advice.

Thankfully, we live in the forest so he has lots of ‘not-us’ food sources and he only comes around a few times per month. He is always healthy so I’m pretty sure he is getting some good stuff between visits.

When they do come around we give them hard boiled eggs, when we have surplus, and the scrap plates with some mixed dog and cat food.

Roughly every 3 months they also get the canned cat food with some pinworm de-wormer.

      Thanks for the return pics!

That is good you’re in the woods! My main concern is that he’d start coming around people who may not be as friendly, or someone’s dog.

You’re giving them a good mix of things then with the pet foods to fill in that protein.

Was he just a lost baby or was he sick/injured?

I volunteer at a rehab center and they were teasing me to get my rabies retest because they want more help, so I may finally get some hands-on raccoon time if I pass this time. I got the shots in the fall, but didn’t produce enough activities, so I got a booster about 6 weeks ago.

Him and two brothers were orphaned when mom got hit by a logging truck on the highway. Every rehab facility we called refused to take them, and all but one advised us ‘just let them die’.

We fostered them for a bit and then a friend who had done raccoon rehab in the past took over. Sadly his two brothers passed, but morty fought and stayed strong. He was re-wilded almost two years ago now and makes his way back down here to our place two or three times a month and stays for a visit and some treats then lumbers back into the woods with his girlfriend.

Ask and ye shall receive. This is probably my favorite, actually.

That is a very soft pear. I did remove the sticker after the picture was taken. Not that he’d care.

      Bonus image for good question.
