More than a dozen corporate Democrats last week responded to upstart progressive wins in primaries by pledging their support to a political manifesto called “Promise to America,” which emphasizes support for capitalism, law enforcement, and “fiscal discipline.”
A Thursday report published by Sludge about the Promise to America found that it “is closely tied to the Welcome Party, a group whose PAC has received more than half of its individual contributions from billionaires.”
Is this amateur hour or something? Are the billionaires even trying?

Gee… liberal elites pouring money into the pretend-democratic, oligarchic institutions that assures their power and privilege over the working class like they’ve been doing for all of modern history? Really?
I’m shocked, I tell you! Shocked!
My problem is they have been invading threadiverse, and it’s extremely annoying.
Who has, liberal elites? Or just liberals? Liberals have been here for a long time, so its not exactly an invasion 😅 the reddit IPO and it’s controversies brought many a liberal, and that was quite a while back
For as leftist as this space is it doesn’t really belong explicitly to a given political ideology. They’re not exactly my favorite conversation partners either though 😅 but I suppose its also an opportunity to share our ideas with new people. I was probably best classified as a liberal once.
If you were born in the liberal world it means you were drenched in liberal ideology from birth. Either that, or fascism. That’s the only two ideologies they allow here.
yes
That are not capitalists. Capitalists are only interested in hostile capitulation.
Glad you studied theory, and/or you were intersected with. My wife has only been able to turn two people over in this network.
I really hate to say this but honestly I think it takes less than most leftists believe in many cases, it just takes more patience combined with social grace than many leftist have, at least in my (granted, very online) experience.
Leftists feel kinda painfully bad at expressing anything beyond “capitalism bad” in a way that makes sense to broader audiences; I think I’d have found my way here a lot sooner were that not the case 😅
There are people who really do sincerely identify with capitalism ideologically, but I think a lot of people just end up in the liberal bucket because they don’t understand what anything else might actually look like. And to be fair, in many respects I still don’t either. I need to sit down and learn a lot more theory, I don’t know dick about squat 😅
I think the only reason we’re seeing people really consider leftist ideology who wouldn’t have otherwise these days is just because “capitalism bad” keeps cutting deeper. But many of the folks you see upvoting latestagecapitalism memes on reddit still don’t understand anything about what else things could look like, and to be kinda blunt that feels like a bit of a failing on leftist’s parts
Is the fedihosting foundation actually elites? I didn’t like how they ran .world (and didn’t really want to have the .world label, tbh 😅) so I eventually found a new home, but I don’t actually know much about them behind the scenes
It’s not helped by the fact that leftists really do not want to take a hard look at their own narratives and go, “Gee, no wonder this makes us look like out-of-touch edgelords!”
In the narrative game you don’t win any prizes for being right.
Have fun doing a deep dive!
Thats actually the stuff I changed instances over, though I’d been meaning to for ages and just hadn’t made up my mind about the replacement
I knew they suck, but when you said elite I thought you meant they’re powerful rich people with status that shapes society. Though they certainly shape a lot of the threadiverse :/
