    In other news, I’ve talked people at work onto volunteering at an animal rescue! We get a set amount of paid volunteering hours so why not make the most of it and help some critters along the way.

      GIBSON! aw poor gibsby. It is indeed a rough day for fluff. We used to give ours cool showers on hot days like this. Probably a bit traumatic, and sticking them straight into a shower isn’t the way to go about it, but with sufficient treats they usually don’t mind when it’s really hot

      I’m strongly considering animal fostering once I turn 18. I was reading an article on a foster org and apparently they’re very in demand around this time of the year. I’m actually even considering emailing one and explaining my situation and even though I can’t adopt one, seeing if they’d be willing to give me a shot anyway

    Something that seems to have disappeared this year and I’m rather upset about it – Christmas pretzel trays! You know the plastic trays with little sections for pretzel bows, pretzel sticks, those tiny little round savory bikkies, etc etc? I absolutely love having one of them (with some corn relish dip), but haven’t been able to locate one this year!

    Anyone else have a seemingly dying favourite snack for this time of year?

      Last time I saw those things was at Aldi, but not this year.

      I am absolutely in love with Pannetone BUT refuse to pay the mad prices for it.

      I try to wait until it’s on sale. A nice slice of that, with a cup of tea is heaven.

      Much better when it’s winter, but I’ll take what I can get.

    A plain pie, beef pie or beef mince pie is wrong. It’s a mince pie.

    A vanilla slice is not called a vanilla slice custard square thingo. You will be met with confusion, recognition then a smirk all within seconds. Coconut maybe included. A nice surprise.

    A large coffee is in fact a medium. An extra large is a large and rarer to find so will elicit a very eager YES PLEASE.

      Don’t the poms eat a fruit pie thing they call a “mince pie”? It’s like a Christmas thing I think

      A lot of places just call basic mince pies “plain pie” or similar which I don’t mind all too much

        They do indeed. So do Australians - check out colesworth. The original ‘mince pie’ would have had beef or pork mince in it. It was a protein/sugar/vitamin blast reserved for celebrating the 12 days of Christmas (which go from Christmas Eve to 6th January) before the peasants went back to eating pottage only until Easter. Its a small pie that can be made in quantity and handed out to all an sundry to celebrate the holy season. Which was a thin Christian layer over a much older tradition of celebrating the darkest coldest time of the year with fire and good food and good company.

    Managed to make it through the entire day with that 3 hours of sleep. I’m only feeling a little tired at the moment, but I know once I flick the light off, I’ll be asleep within 5 minutes even if I don’t feel that tired now

      I’ve got some here too! More than a few drops, it’s up to a legitimite (light) shower. This is very good news for my garden.
