Mamdani comes across as some kind of IRL political superhero, but he just does common sense things that all leaders, who are competent and actually give a shit about the people who elected them, should be doing.

I think Trump paved the way for all politicians to start doing whatever they (or really their handlers) want regardless whether the citizens consent or protest.
Today a guy at work told me he runs my designs through every AI service for review before approving it. I have to go through a week-long review process before I can send anything to an approved supplier, and he’s just straight up feeding this stuff directly to the worst possible companies.
He had the audacity to complain about our new “lock out personal USBs from working on PCs for security reasons” policy, when he’s the reason it’s going on in the first place.
Just venting.
Don’t vent, report that asshole or you’re complicit.
I appreciate the sentiment, but the day I take action against a human being I usually like to protect a corporation’s interests is the day hell freezes over.
Don’t listen to the person above.
Take the opportunity to compassionately inform him. Like, “Listen, I understand we’re all doing our jobs here, but can you not do that? <giant listen of reasons>”
But let him know how it affects you. Have a human conversation about it.
I’m super glad that I’m not growing up with this shit. It’s terrifying to think about how my age group may be one of the last that went through school without any AI influence. These kids aren’t going to know how to do anything without AI.

Stop what? Giving AI to students? That’s easy. Asking them to stop students from using AI? How?
I don’t think they’re asking that. That’s the responsibility of parents.
Indeed. So this is a nothingburger of a stance. I love Mamdani but this makes no actual sense to celebrate.
Why not? Schools shouldn’t be allowed to provide kids with unsupervised AI use.
if you are looking for pokiticians to control your personal life then you have the wrong party. however if you ever get around to reading the articke then maybe you will agree that using ai for grading and monitoring behavior is wrong and i am glad he is enforcing keeping that out
