Oligarchy Linux likely has so many government-backed backdoors that this one was perhaps a consequence of them.

Political Memes@lemmy.world•What good do luxury apartments do that no one can afford?
0·1 month agoThere are far better options for visually pleasant housing than these Soviet Union era blocks.
Like, seeing so many of these in Poland or other post-Soviet countries is just sad. They’re grey, neglected, and the people who are forced to choose them don’t have any other option.
We could have affordable housing that has some proper aesthetics. Just got to take care of the real estate developer mafias around the world first.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•European Commission Revives Push for Encryption Backdoors in ProtectEU Strategy, Framing Mass Surveillance as “Lawful Access”
6·1 month agoThose in charge are as is often the case incompetent when it comes to actual means of running things.
They impose high taxes to offset the losses caused by their corrupt politics and friends & families appointed to public institutions. In turn, they’re surprised that the general populace have started to get outside of the system by living off grid, having money outside of their circle of influence, etc. The population is starting to become ungovernable.
It never was about any sort of safety.

0·1 month agoSpace is a neutral zone like the Antarctic. Like they have any right to bring weaponry over there.
Rather than having weaponry to protect Earth against external threats like asteroids, they’d point the weapons inwards to oppress the population of Earth.
This administration should be dismantled as soon as possible. It’s toxic to the world.

0·1 month agoCurrent US politics are ridiculous. How come there aren’t large protests with burnt tires, thrown concrete blocks, and biological waste being pumped into government buildings like France had in the recent years? And before anybody points that out, French police and military also have guns, so being armed is not unique to the US forces. Hasn’t prevented the unarmed Frenchies from taking action too.
Mere words don’t mean anything to these politicians.

Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube Premium is getting yet another price hike for users across the globeEnglish
1·1 month agoThis is a bit of an overstatement. Brave has competent software developers - they created their Rust-based content blocker, and kept it as open-source. It’s one of the most powerful blocking mechanisms, often working in places where even the rightfully praised uBlock Origin doesn’t (good examples are in YouTube itself last year when they’ve made a big attempt to stop adblocking by changing the underlying mechanism of how ads are being served in videos).
They were perfectly capable of developing advanced software before AI coding agents were a thing. They’re skilled and delivering.

Apple still lists the lake as Ontario on their maps, so for now it’s just Google being particularly sycophantic towards the Trump administration.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Canadians have a historic opportunity to punch Microsoft in the face
0·2 months agoDitching Microsoft is only a pure benefit.
Linux is free, better maintained, and way less troublesome for proper work. Microsoft ecosystem is just an illusion of comfort that keeps breaking itself the moment it encounters a printer, a virtual machine having issues, or whatever else.
Better invest that money into real human employees rather than paying for all the licensing costs.
While at it, the cybersecurity mafia should also get sanctioned out of existence by making the SOC 2 charade an irrelevant thing. It’s just an overpriced, silly report, not even a proper certification anyway.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What profession do y'all hate with deepest of passion
0·5 months ago- (in-house) Recruiter
- Project Manager
- Agile Coach
These are probably my top three. Recruiters who work in company HR, are usually very moody about who they pick, based on personal preference rather than facts. Sole proprietor recruiters are effective though, that’s why only the in-house ones.
The other two are similar, but they’re the “I work in IT” people who neither possess nor perform the technicalities. Actual imposters (unlike many good folk who do fair work but sometimes suffer from the “imposter syndrome”).
And yes, exceptions happen too. I just dislike these three roles in particular.
I doubt they did - they only speak up for the fictional customer, meanwhile silently complying to whatever government requests user data from them.
They’ll say anything just to distract their users away from them being caught red handed in the act of giving away their data to the governments all around the world.
Classic business marketing.

0·5 months agoI’d personally like to see a LotR in KCD2 format, maybe centred around Rohan or Dale.
I hope they go in depth with side questing and gameplay loops, rather than focusing on the main story. Kind of how Skyrim was a sidetracking paradise.
Don’t you think it’s a bit over the top representation of the MLs? They’re way more cohesive than that, and there’s no Stalin in the “Marxist-Leninist”.
It’s not about universal hate towards a particular nation - more about the idea how our current society is becoming progressively more unbearable by denying life basics to the common folk. Things like “earning a living wage” implies that below a certain threshold we don’t deserve to live. Real estate developers scalping the housing, making it unaffordable. All while a few hundred people owns a huge portion of wealth, constantly growing it and meddling into politics.
Other things like the reality of not actually being able to vote things away once totalitarian parties takeover a country’s legal systems using democratic means.
There’s plenty of that going as to why many like Karl Marx as a literary inspiration.

Deport these 9% who want Canada to become the 51st US state.
The country’s average IQ will rise, and you’ll be free of disruptive elements, dear Canada. Be intolerant to the intolerant! (i.e. to those who support the American pedocracy.)
