0·24 days agoAt the risk of angering people working in retail (I’ve worked retail); I can’t comprehend how ‘Retail Manager’ is worthy of a skilled worker visa.
Obviously this article is dealing with abuses of the visa programme but presumably there are many people out there running a branch of currys who came here on a visa to do it. That shouldn’t be necessary in a sector that is shrinking.

0·24 days agoI think there’s also been more publicity and general awareness of the issue as well. Certainly I have noticed modern slavery awareness posters on bus stops in the last year and never saw much before that.

0·26 days agoIt’s actually the earth that would worry me; the solder looks like it wasn’t properly fluxed; dull and with black soot where the solder meets the brass earth rail. There is also no mechanical interlock like a crimp to serve as a backup.
The live and neutral aren’t good quality but in theory should fail safe if the earth or the circuits protection are in working order.

European auto makers and not sbubsidised to the same extent and in fact most subsidies are illegal under EU trading rules. Even in domestic markets we have to pay tax on new EV purchases, typically 20 percent.
Chinese government support of ev manufacturers has been massive and is contributing to their unsustainable national debt (that and building massive infrastructure that can’t be used because they are falling down).
It’s well documented, here’s one of many articles:
China signals it will pull plug on subsidies for EVs with five-year plan exclusion - https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/china-signals-it-will-pull-plug-subsidies-evs-with-five-year-plan-exclusion-2025-10-29/
The CSIS research based on the business filings and Chinese government reports puts the subsidy at between 28 and 32 percent depending on the manufacturer and target market.
This is all part of China’s strategy to basically undercut the opposition for long enough that they will go bankrupt.
What will happen when there is no competition? Well, you only have to look at the current prices of computer components for the answer to that.

0·2 months agoRight now BYD are being so heavily subsidised by the Chinese government that they are imported into the US and Europe at less than production and shipping cost.
Believe me when I say that as soon as they have enough market share they will be doing this, and because china are hyper-capitalist when it comes to exports it will be more intrusive and more inconvenient.

0·3 months agoYou can only install Graphene on a Google phone and there’s two big issues with that:
- you are rewarding Google by buying their hardware.
- it doesn’t matter how secure the os claims to be if the hardware is compromised and there is nothing you can do to convince me that a pixel doesn’t have a backdoor into your data at a hardware level. If I was a conspiracy minded type I might say that Graphene is a Trojan Horse.

UK Politics@feddit.uk•Will Andy Burnham's £2 bus fares make a difference?English
0·3 months agoWell… The buses I get in the morning and evening are packed with nurses porters and cleaners from the local hospital. They will each save £450/year with this initiative so it really depends if you think giving people £450 extra to spend or save is worthwhile.

United Kingdom@feddit.uk•Burnham to scrap Starmer’s digital ID scheme in ‘reset of priorities’English
0·3 months agoI fully understand that there is no “UK reserve” it’s basically my job to understand this. I have to simplify things for a shorter post, though.
Here’s a lesson for anyone interested: there are only a few areas in the world that produce natural gas that can be used in our gas supply system with domestic refineries and distribution. There are sources further afield but without connection to a pipeline they are cost prohibitive. A commodity is only as valuable as your ability to deliver it.
Areas of natural gas readily accessible in Europe are the north sea, Baltic states and Russia. So whilst it is a “global market” in theory, the reality is price of natural gas for UK is effectively dominated by European continental availability.
Europe as a whole doesn’t have enough gas without buying it from Russia, which is currently not sensible because Russia is using that money to fund a war against Europe. That is why the price is high.
If Europe, including UK are able to release more natural gas it will reduce the overall cost of gas a little bit (maybe a lot depending on other countries contribution and effectiveness of reducing gas usage) and also reduce the amount of money that goes to Russia.

United Kingdom@feddit.uk•Burnham to scrap Starmer’s digital ID scheme in ‘reset of priorities’English
0·3 months agoThe poorest people in our country are disproportionately affected by the natural gas supply crisis, the cause of which sits in the Kremlin.
Increasing UK supply of natural gas will offset energy costs ultimately reducing the cost for poorest people in the country.
Even the most optimistic estimates for creating a fully carbon neutral energy grid are 20 years away, that’s best case scenario but the green party are working with reform to object to the infrastructure that is needed to make that happen.
Explain to me how helping poor people is bad?

True. In fairness I don’t play them so I wasn’t aware how widespread anti cheat is. I occasionally play Apex legends which forces cross play on console and the pc gamers have kernel level anti cheat but it’s very obvious they are cheating. It would be a fun console game if it wasn’t for that.
Edit to say that like me you can simply choose not to play those games.
Counterpoint: cheating is now so widespread on multiplayer pc games that they are basically unplayable.
It’s the main reason I still play console for multiplayer.

Good luck with the build! I’ve built a few bikes in my time and my best advice is make sure you get a proper headset cup install tool.
