I simply don’t agree with the premise, that the goal of the right is to “suppress or even erase trans people.” Most people on the right don’t even care as long as it’s not pushed onto them and taken too far. Supporting gender-affirming surgeries for undocumented immigrants in custody is taking it too far, and if someone questions that, it doesn’t mean they’re transphobic.

I will continue to use the term wokesim because it describes a real phenomenom in the world. If you want to paint a false picture of my beliefs to yourself because the use of said word then you’re free to do so, but just understand that we probably mostly agree on the vast majority of these issues. However, telling me it’s hard to believe I’m centrist is exactly the issue I’m talking about here. That is what makes people like me go ‘fuck it then’ and vote for the other party.

Also no, I don’t think people either lie 100% of the time or not at all, but I also don’t think you get to arbitrarily choose which is a lie and what is not based on which better fits your agenda.

“Make America Great Again” is his motto, and the actions he took during his first term mostly aligned with it, even if the outcomes didn’t always turn out as intended. If you don’t believe he means what he says, then I don’t think he should be criticized for the rest of what he says either - since he wouldn’t mean that, either.

He says he wants to end the war. Ending support doesn’t do that and I don’t see how Russia winning would be beneficial to the US.

I agree. Lemmy is the most unwelcoming social media platform I’ve ever been to. It’s why I no longer recommend it to anyone. People be like, “just leave Twitter,” but then don’t have the tiniest bit of tolerance for views that even slightly differ from their own. This doesn’t just apply to the comments either - my highly curated feed, with over 500 of the most toxic users blocked, still mostly consists of people complaining. Look at me; I’m complaining too.

I guess that in the case of my example, it’s more of a demonstration of how weirdly Finnish language can work. Juosta = run, juoksennella = run around aimlessly, juoksenneltaisiinko? = should we run around aimlessly?

In Finnish, I can simply ask, “Juoksenneltaisiinko?” whereas in English, I have to say, “Should we run around aimlessly?”

I’m also unsure how well this signaling actually works. It feels a lot like name-dropping; almost everyone does it, yet no one seems genuinely impressed by it.

I definitely consider a band shirt an ad as well, but wearing one feels like a conscious decision to show your preference for that band and perhaps attract like-minded people. With clothing brands, however, it’s more about signaling wealth and status rather than admiration for the brand itself. You’re wearing an ad and being oblivious to it.

Solid wood has the same grain texture all the way through. Plywood, MDF, OSB, etc., are engineered wood. Basically, if it says ‘solid wood,’ my assumption is that what I see is what I get. If it’s plywood with a hardwood veneer, then it’s trying to trick me into thinking it’s something it’s not, and that doesn’t count. Although, technically, if a piece is made of plywood and doesn’t try to hide it, I guess you could argue it’s solid wood - because, technically, it is.

Tracking those jets isn’t the issue. It’s sharing that information publicly. Facebook doesn’t hand out your personal information to others, and if you think they do, then you don’t understand how targeted ads work.
