  • The only reason there is any “fierce debate” about either of those topics, is because vested interests are spending a lot of money to have voices shout very loudly but knowingly in the wrong, in order to prolong the status quo.

The oil industry, for example, is one of the most heavily subsidised, highly profitable industries on the planet. That only remains so if the world’s demand for oil and gas remains insatiable.

Time and again, leaks, lawsuits and increasingly rare/dangerous investigative journalism have shown various oil and gas companies up to the fucking elbows in corrupt practices -ranging from skewed science to outright murder- to deny the extraordinary effects of burning their fuels, let alone the absolutely insane list of environmental damage that is accruing from all the non-fuel petroleum products society has been conditioned to be reliant on.

There is no disagreement on human caused climate change besides “Just how utterly fucked are our grandkids?”.

  • My wife and I opted out of the procreation game, mostly because we could see where things were going when we were in our twenties.

We get to watch the fall of civilisation in real time, and point and laugh guilt free where applicable. Watching what happens to the US over the next 20 years will be fucking hilarious, for example. Watching as it turns to desert from the core outward with supertornadoes peeling strips off and hurricanes that redefine measuring scales pulverising chunks of what isn’t literally on fire. The parallels with the evangelical nutters’ fairytale God tier smiting will be something to behold, and I am totally here for the whole thing.

  • It’s been pointed out to me a few times recently that a lot of hospitality staff don’t actually want the system to change as they usually don’t declare their full income from the tips to the taxman.

If they unionise and change things, their whole income becomes taxable, and they feel that they lose.

This seriously undermines the sympathy I have for the staff as a group. The tools for change are right there, but there are enough bootlickers and foolish individualists to poison any attempt at change short of a general strike. (I’m under no illusions as to the inevitable violent government response to such a thing either.)

Ultimately it comes down to; “Either change your system with group action, like everywhere else did, or keep whining about getting stiffed, your choice.”

  • I was one of those “gifted children” according to every assessment I was subject to.

In my shitty crab bucket of an ex-mining town, “no child was left behind”. Meaning, every “top set” class has two or three knuckle dragging cunts whose every waking thought appeared to be “How can I be as much of a disruptive prick as possible?”

This led to 90% of our lessons being taken up by the poor teacher having to basically babysit three animals intent on destroying equipment and furnishings while we taught ourselves.

These dickhead should have all been in a remedial class together, where they could be taught at a level they all understood, with a length of 2"x2" as far as I give a fuck.

Edit: Those of us that didn’t give a shit about fucking football, or in fact were different in any way, shape, or form, had a huge bullseye already painted on us. Having the bullies in all of our classes just made it worse, there was no escape.

  • That would also require being unfortunate enough to be in the US for a protracted length of time.

While the UK is indeed a shit hole and getting worse thanks to Trump wannabes and other associated scumbags only a hair’s breadth from being out and out Nazis, it isn’t quite as bad as the US. Yet.

Edit: I have spent time in the states, but it’s direction in the last decade has put paid to me ever returning, for business or pleasure. Fuck that.
