  • To the level of your ability. I say this because I certainly but up against my limitation and at some point you have to recognize someone with expertise and take their advice. So you can decide things based on what you know but when you don’t know things well enough you have to sorta meta decide. Medical is an obvious example. I will certainly do some internet research with my help and well being but when it comes to the yearly I have a discussion and listen to the advice of my doctor. I will decide if and how much of their advice to take but if im not taking their advice I should likely get another primary care as I obviously do not feel confident with their expertise. I may take into account what I think their biases are but I have to take into account what I think my own biases are as well. Im a pretty high functioning individual who has several degrees, pretty much liked school, and is used to learning new things regularly. There is no shame in recognizing and taking advice from someone who you think has better expertise than yourself. On the other hand some folks do just not even try and want any random person to just do their mental work. At the very least the person should look at what the decision is and evaluate their own capacities and have a reason why they want a particular someone to help them out.

  • mandatory gift giving should be eliminated. Giving a gift should be based on knowing someone and encountering something you absolutely know they would love and have the spare cash such that it does not put you out economically to pick it up. I think the problem is human nature though. Its very hard for someone to receive a gift without feeling they have to reciprocate. It really is easier to give than recieve in some ways.

  • In case people just read the headline the end result is it can’t 100% replace humans but the stats they give indicate they are pretty close and they learned some lessons that they are going to be using for improvements. They mention product damage but not cost. What surprised me was they were pretty close in rate to people but it mentioned people are much faster with smaller items and items at human level (not way low for bending or high that needs a ladder) ; while the robots did not vary as much with size or location. I could totally see them revamping human labor around this. Setting up for small items to be handled by humans when they are on shift and maybe having a role where a human responds to robots that can’t identify an item. They even mention maybe having robots do the high areas so humand don’t have to get on ladders (which sorta increases safety to). So I could see a robot management role which we have in a lot of automated setups. Humans to inspect for damage or quality, repair, or just intervene when needed.

  • I mean if Im having a laydown I just rest or nap. I don’t really think of it as staring into the void. I love naps or taking it a easy for a bit. Moreso if I can do it outside with nice weather or even in a chair near an open window. Closing my eyes and listening to the birds and other bits of nature. Granted various noises can make that more of a no go if the timing is not right. Evening is even better with stars and the moon. If you start looking at deep breathing and mediation and having a few minutes is like gold. All that being said I like suduko and its a nice thing to do throughout a day a few mins at a time. I think tastes may vary with suduko though. Crosswords to but I have to be a bit desperate as I find they are more about me learning about the puzzlemaker than language really.

  • I have never been into it but the very first ultimate fighter, back when it had few rules, had one and woa. He lost due to a suspicious thing where the entrance gate game open causing a reset but without it he 100% would have won. It was amazing as the other guy was not exactly small and got a full on kick on him. I mean as best your going to get with full force and the sumo shrugged it off like nothing and then he caught him with what seemed like a casual slap that winged him and you would have thought he was hit by a truck. gracie never faced him but I doubt he would ever have been able to get a lock on him. Wish he had competed the next year.

  • This has a good rundown on the effect in it being about activated genes and even compares to similar in effects in humans but rather than being a natural effect we see how in our species the Y makes one male as a defective Y causes one to lack male characteristics and an extra functional Y will cause male characteristics. In clownfish they are all males but their biology allows for the gene to be turned off by environment. It makes me wonder about how the eggs develop and if the biology for production in present in the males or if it has to develop once the sex gene changes. https://www.thetech.org/ask-a-geneticist/articles/2004/ask28/
