It’s too bad firefoxOS is gone. I loathe android more and more by the day.

Linux Phones@lemmy.ml•I Made A Wearable Computer To Bypass The Law - Flamethrower
0·2 months agoHope in humanity (slightly) restored.
A little from my config:
<?xml version="1.0"?> ... <core> <decoration>server</decoration> <gap>0</gap> <adaptiveSync>no</adaptiveSync> <reuseOutputMode>no</reuseOutputMode> <primarySelection>no</primarySelection> <allowTearing>no</allowTearing> <autoEnableOutputs>yes</autoEnableOutputs> <xwaylandPersistence>no</xwaylandPersistence> </core> ... <keybind key="A-Tab"><action name="NextWindow" /></keybind> ... <mousebind button="Right" action="Drag"><action name="Resize" /></mousebind> ... <windowRule identifier="xfce4-appfinder" matchOnce="false" fixedPosition="yes" serverDecoration="no"> <skipTaskbar>yes</skipTaskbar> <skipWindowSwitcher>yes</skipWindowSwitcher> <ignoreConfigureRequest>yes</ignoreConfigureRequest> <fixedPosition>yes</fixedPosition> <action name="ToggleAlwaysOnTop"/> <action name="MoveToEdge" direction="up" snapwindows="false" /> <action name="MoveToEdge" direction="right" snapwindows="false" /> </windowRule>…etc etc.
I’ve been using openbox for more than a decade and a half and 3 years ago I moved to wayland with labwc. The theme is compatible and the config syntax similar but you can’t just copy the openbox config and load it into labwc. The experience is VERY similar to openbox…but better. I’m not going back.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Bcachefs creator claims his custom LLM is 'fully conscious'
0·8 months agoLol, he should marry her and NEVER have children.
This is the rudest comment I’ve ever seen in beehaw… chill dude/tte. I’ve never had a problem like that in my ~20 years on debian… and I consider myself just a poweruser.
Maybe you should RTFM??. Good luck though.
Debian ftw!.

Linux@lemmy.ml•AMDGPU crash when on high load, blackscreen and gpu fan go crazy.
0·1 year agoLong time ago, after lot of headaches, I discovered the PSU was the culprit. Changing it for another with more power/better quality solved it in a instant. I mentioned it because is something you might not think about initially. Good luck!.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Which program is the one that surprised you most that it is available on Linux?
0·1 year agoBash. It has enabled me to automatize a lot of sh*t I wouldn’t do just because it would take me a lot of time/efford to do. There’s a LOT you can do with a few simple scripts, a few examples:
- Remove files I don’t need (images, rip/conversion logs, empty folders…).
- Compress and optimize folders of photos recursively.
- Apply watermarks to photos recursively.
- Convert filetypes (flac2mp3, pdf2cbr, webm2mp3,web2jpg…).
- Configure input devices (keyboards, mouse, graphic tablets).
- Autorename files (spaces to _, . to _, _ to spaces…).
- Remove audio from videos recursively.
- Remove audio/subtitle tracks from videos.
- Update appimages automatically.
- Update/cleanup system/repos.
- Use different theming for different applications.
- Mount iso/bin… images.
- Extract zip|rar|tar.gz|… files automatically.
- Modify pdfs.
- Get the weather for my location.
- Get stats from my PCs to be shown in panel applet.
- Alias program names to ones of my choosing.
- Open CUPS config in firefox.
- Refresh font caches and other management tools I don’t care to remember.
- Fix permissions.
- Make a backup.
- Restore a backup.
- Copy files safely (rsync).
- Change volume level.
- Install all the packages and configs I need to make the OS/apps behave/look the way I like.
…you name it…
…in most cases just by typing one word in the terminal. It was kind of a mindblow coming from the crappy window$ crappysystem eons ago.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•SteamDeck drawing setup (Huion HS64 and Krita)
0·2 years agoI got these: Moko foldable and Plugable bluetooth. I highly recommend the second one because 1. Normal layout and 2. It works with usb cable, so you can unlock LUKS or get into bios if you need to. The moko feels better to type on but you have to deal with the layout (just give it time) and it only works via bluetooth (usb is charge only), so no LUKS prompt/bios AFAIK.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•SteamDeck drawing setup (Huion HS64 and Krita)
0·2 years agoI got a wacom intuos s (pug & play) for that reason, after having a couple of huions. Opentabletdriver only gave me problems (constant crashes and unstable functionality). I’d recommend you a foldable bluetooth keyboard for jams (check for one that work in usb mode too if you want to input the luks password or something like that). I’ve been using the deck as main pc for the last 6 months or so with debian, docked most of the time. Not a bad setup for the money.

Linux@lemmy.ml•My Openbox Experiment - Ditching the Desktop Environment?
0·2 years agoI’ve been using openbox only for the last 20 years or so and I loved it. For the last 3-4 months I moved to labwc…and again, I’m loving it. I’ve never felt the need for a full desktop.

Linux@lemmy.ml•in most gnu/linux distributions that use xfce or gnome, why is the default music/audio player rhythmbox??
0·2 years agoNothing beats playing just what you want, when you want, whether or not there’s internet available and at the highest quality you can afford. Quodlibet/Rythmbox, ID3 and puddletag FTW !!.

Mandatory and really easy to see with an icon. Full disclosure on text.
