Political Memes@lemmy.world•Another reminder that Conservatives don't actually listen to the song lyrics
0·1 month agoThis is almost as bad as thinking RATM was on their side. I say almost, but holy shit, how do you listen to one of their songs without comprehending or even thinking about a single line of the lyrics. Actual dementia

A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•The moral priorities of the average American
0·2 months agoIt is wild to me that homosexuality is still a more contentious topic in this country than literal life or death policies with very real considerations of severe human suffering like the death penalty or access to euthanasia.
Sounds like someone’s having a little bit of buyer’s remorse, huh? This is why you never drink the Kool-Aid
The shooting was definitely real. The furthest down this conspiracy rabbit hole that I’m willing to go is entertaining the idea that the bloodied ear could have possibly resulted from colliding with SS hip mounted service weapon when he was “tackled” for cover.
That said, no one needs to tell the conspiracy prone MAGA base any of this. He’s spent at least the last decade and a half curating and exploiting the most conspiracy prone (nicest language I can use) people in this country into his following. He deserves worse than this bed he made.

This overused: “It’s not x, but y” giveaway is one of the most annoying AI ticks for me. I give them credit for actually using a colon instead of the em dash. Buy yeah, that’s just about the only step they took to obfuscate their AI text

People Twitter@sh.itjust.works•I totally agree, too much is too much.
0·5 months agoWhen it comes to activism, I’ve often said that, ‘most people know the difference between a good vegan and a bad vegan’. Being insufferable, overbearing, or pushing discussions where they aren’t needed or wanted does nothing to help your cause, it usually does the opposite. When you talk to most people who ascribe to a certain political, lifestyle, or activist way of life, you’ll usually find that most of them are pretty normal and non-pervasive people; IE you may never even know those details without asking them. This goes for most things. Fitness enthusiast vs gym bro. Music/Media enjoyers vs gatekeepers. Activist who promote and provide good accurate information in a hands off way, vs those who push political messaging where it’s not wanted. Be a good vegan.

Technology@lemmy.world•Oh, good: Discord's age verification rollout has ties to Palantir co-founder and panopticon architect Peter ThielEnglish
0·5 months agoI love how mask off they were in choosing Palantir as their dipshit company name. Like, “Yes, hello, you are now calling Anakin Skywalker’s Daycare Service. Are you looking to enroll your child.” Bet our political elite would love that one.

News@lemmy.world•ICE quietly bails on Super Bowl as outrage grows
0·5 months agoNah, let’s be honest. Immensely wealthy private companies foresee a potentially negative impact to profits if an event on the scale of the fucking Super Bowl is used as a dog and pony show/display of power by the current regime. Wealth is power, and when power talks, even authority listens.

News@lemmy.world•Cop gets 20 years for fatally shooting woman who called 911 for help
0·5 months agoTrue. I guess I’m just jaded enough that I hope for anything other than “zero consequences for the officer; plus he’s still working as LEA somewhere” That shit’s actually terrifying

News@lemmy.world•Cop gets 20 years for fatally shooting woman who called 911 for help
0·5 months agoI was JUST thinking about this. What a good time to hop on lemmy. Happy ending.
A word of caution. There are more than a few examples of LEA getting away with murder when they shot people who carried objects that look much less like a gun/weapon than a leaf blower. Not saying it’s right. Just saying it happens.

News@lemmy.world•Gov. Tim Walz encourages Minnesotans to film ICE agents for future prosecutions
0·6 months agoYeah, I remember hearing the same thing now that you mention it. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if anything materializes from going that route. If nothing else, Trump at-least shouldn’t be able to pardon state charges, as far as I’m aware. So maybe there’s hope for accountability in there somewhere.

News@lemmy.world•Gov. Tim Walz encourages Minnesotans to film ICE agents for future prosecutions
0·6 months agoAt the risk of asking a stupid question. Is this really going to help now that Trump has demonstrated that his DOJ has the power to remove criminal investigations from a local level and reassign them to a federal level? Where they will then (Of course) refuse to even investigate let alone prosecute. Is there some other way to seek accountability right now? Or do we literally have to wait for the next administration to do anything with all the evidence being recorded right now?

politics @lemmy.world•Trump administration reportedly freezes all childcare payments to all states
0·6 months agoTrump will literally starve children, to distract the American people, from the fact that he raped children. And that, is fucking wild

This boogie-man makes perfect sense when viewed through the lens of zero-sum thinking. They literally view helping other people as being detrimental to their own position because it means that the people “beneath” them are now less far beneath. This makes their position feel less lofty because we’ve raised the floor of human suffering, thereby making them feel less advantaged and less high above that floor of human suffering by comparison.
It’s not even a meme to characterize them as saying, “the suffering is the point” when they support certain inherently evil consumerist practices. They literally think that way.
