The Fermi Paradox doesn’t seem that paradoxical when you see a map like this. Civilizations could be screaming into the void for millenniums without reaching the other side of the galaxy. Signal strength drops fast too. How would would ever distinguish a faded signal from background noise?

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Valve shares an update on the Steam controllerEnglish
0·2 months agoWhy not just take all the orders now and increase the estimated shipping date? Cut scalpers off at the knees by eliminating FOMO.
I love my original steam controller. I want one of the new ones for when my original eventually breaks. I don’t need it now though. So I would be happy to wait, if I knew they weren’t going to abandon it like the old controller.

0·3 months agoI don’t think it is wrong to be concerned about this. We live in an era of mass surveillance and control. This is just one more tool that governments and corporations can use to control and surveil.
It starts as a DOB field but then escalates to an always online requirement where your full identity is passed along to every app and website. We’ve seen this happen across mobile phones and social media; I don’t want it on my PC.

0·3 months agoNo, but I am on a well that has too much fluoride. Several times the amount that municipalities would put in. I don’t want someone in the same position as me to misinterpret the study and not reduce their fluoride to a safe level.

0·3 months agoSafe at the levels being added by municipalities. At higher concentrations, Fluoride can do some nasty stuff, like skeletal fluorosis. So don’t take this paper to mean any amount of fluoride is safe.

Here’s some details on the bill. The Acadian Expulsion happened about 100 years before Canada became an independent country. So your ancestors would not have been Canadian citizens during the deportation. I am not an immigration lawyer though. There is a contact page on the immigration site, you could just ask them.

0·7 months agoI couldn’t get Fedora working well with Nvidia. Bazzite worked for me out of the box. Bazzite is just Fedora with some out of the box configurations, so it must be possible to make Fedora work with Nvidia. I am just not capable of making it work.
I am happy with Bazzite though.

0·8 months agoI hope they release an official Steam OS for desktop. Maybe a little Nvidia support.
I am too paranoid about security to pirate a video game. I just don’t play the big AAA titles. There are so many indie games worth my attention and support that I don’t notice.

Here is some info from the UN. They take into account a lot of factors beyond carbon output, including acidification of oceans and land use changes. So the 1000 uses is how many uses to be better in all categories. For carbon output, it is around 150 uses.
I guess it depends which categories are more important to you. Plastic is obviously going to be superior in agricultural run-off issues. Cloth is obviously superior in micro plastic emissions. They don’t evaluate microplastics though, so it might be skewed in favour of plastic.

I started with a dual boot. Very easy to do, if you have two hard drives. I have landed on Bazzite because I just game and watch movies at home. It does those things very well.

Bulk Barn does that! A bunch of bins; you scoop what you need and pay by weight. Good for spices and other baking ingredients. No fish oil though.
