  • Anyone knows much about the Serbian election?

Back when the protests started I heard it’s an astroturfed color revolution attempt ultimately aiming to break Serbia’s ties with Russia.

I read their “Student Plan”, it’s very liberal, some points are fine like housing support for young couples and people in underpaid industries like education and healthcare; free schoolbooks for all children, cheap medicines, restoration of rural clinics, forcing permanent contracts after 12 months employment etc.

But anti-corruption and free media points I feel might be there to get rid of politicians who don’t bend backwards for EU through selective lawfare and enforce EU line in the media simply by the power of money.

  • Both he and Brezhnev get way too much hate from people who don’t understand how much anti imperialist, anti colonialist, and socialist movements around the world depnded on the USSR support. China, Cuba Algeria, and so on. Not to mention how many people from developing countries got free education in the USSR during that period that they could bring back to their homelands. All of that requires considerable resources from a country that itself was developing and suffering chronic shortages and scarcity.

  • The federalism of Yugoslavia and the national policies of the USSR both failed and led to fratricidal wars.

Are we blaming AES now for the shit that happened after they collapsed and got replaced by capitalist states?

Yugoslavia and USSR both ultimately failed and collapsed, that much is true. I believe they could’ve survived if they formed a strong alliance, including China.

But the federalism of Yugoslavia and the national policies of the USSR were both incredibly successful in squashing ethnic tensions. People lived peacefully and most would never think fratricidal wars are even possible anymore.

At least with the USSR, I think things would be much improved if initiatives like korenizatsiya, zhenotdel etc were not abandoned.

  • I think it wasn’t so much rivalry as a side effect of the Sino-Soviet split, Vietnam didn’t want to cut ties with the USSR so China supported Cambodia against them.

Same reason China supported jihadists in Afghanistan really. What came out of it was the fall of the USSR (Afghan war wasn’t the only or even main cause but a major one for sure), and China ended up with an extremist state on their borders which exported terrorism into Xinjiang, and the rest is history.

The immense misery of both China and post Soviet peoples in the 90s could probably be avoided if Sino-Soviet split didn’t happen, if they worked together against religious extremists and counter-revolutionaries.

And if the Tito-Stalin split also didn’t happen…

  • I’m not an anarchist, but a lot of people here are misrepresenting anarchism. Anarchists don’t reject coordination or planning, only hierarchical state control. Large infrastructure would be built by federated councils, unions, and communes, with common plans and technical bodies coordinated by accountable, recallable delegates. Central coordination without a state hierarchy is entirely possible.

My disagreement with anarchism is different: I think only a state with a strong coercive apparatus can survive sustained imperial pressure and capitalist encirclement.

  • You’re right the identitarian qualifiers were not needed there, I removed that part cause it’s also not the point at all and my post stands without it. I’m not claiming Corbyn is a misogynist.

Can you explain why, when he was leading Momentum, by far the largest grassroots movement in the UK, and oversaw the largest surge of Labour membership in history, all completely loyal to him; and old Blairites in the party obstructed and sabotaged him, he didn’t pull a similar nuclear option? Why didn’t he threaten legal action, involve the membership, write to everyone alluding the pary is being stolen from him, etc? Why didn’t he purge the neolibs, Starmer at least proved Labour leader has the power to remove unwanted political elements from the party. Back then the explanation was either “oh Corbyn is just too nice, he’ll do everything to avoid confrontation” or “don’t hate the player, hate the game! he’s doing what has to be done to survive in parliamentary politics”. But neither answer works now does it? So what changed?

What he did was both confrontational and a complete self-sabotage, but what remains constant is he’s always punching to the left within his party.

(edit) and yeah “Ive never heard of this woman so this is wrecker propaganda” is I think misogynistic

To explain: I don’t know you and I’m not saying you are a mysogynist. But look at it this way, when a man challenges female authority most people will at least look him up before writing “who that even is” cause they don’t want to appear ignorant. When it’s a woman challenging a man, something to the effect of “I’ve never heard of this woman so I bet she’s been synthetically propped up by propagandists to wreck the party” will appear immediately. So regardless of your personal qualities and intentions, I think your comment came out misogynistic.
