I always write toy software. I derive joy from writing in G’MIC.

Programming@programming.dev•AI Didn’t Make Programming Easier. It Just Made It Differently Difficult
0·2 months agoThis is why I only use AI as a last resort tool, I never use AI otherwise. AI can’t really solve problems as well as humans do. I see it as only a tool, but last resort tool. I have only resorted to it 5x in the span of two years.

Programming@programming.dev•Why Is Python So Popular in 2025?
0·1 year agoI’d say libraries is why it is popular. Also, I’m not a Python developer, and I don’t bother with libraries.
As someone who dislikes Python, I can’t say I agree. So, I will use Python, but I only use it for 3 lines of code snips to test before making codes on other languages.

Programming@programming.dev•If AI is so good at coding - where are the open source contributions?
0·1 year agoI used it only as last resort. I verify it before using it. I only had used it for like .11% of my project. I would not recommend AI.

Programming@programming.dev•If AI is so good at coding - where are the open source contributions?
0·1 year agoI’ll admit I did used AI for code before, but here’s the thing. I already coded for years, and I usually try everything before last resort things. And I find that approach works well. I rarely needed to go to the AI route. I used it like for .11% of my coding work, and I verified it through stress testing.
I never had a issue with loops. If I feel something is off, I terminate, check code, and fix it.

Python@programming.dev•Python Performance: Why 'if not list' is 2x Faster Than Using len()
0·1 year agoThis. I rarely boot up Python for the tasks I need to do, and if they are, they are one of the following:
- Assistant code for other coding language
- Throwaway script
- Prototype before using a faster language

Programming@programming.dev•AI: a fork in the road for open source
0·1 year agoI just write in a language few people really knows well. Not like I expect AI to do a great job of basing off my code.

Programming@programming.dev•Vibe Coding is not an excuse for low-quality work
0·1 year agoI only used LLM-generated code once. I tested and made modifications to see if it was I want. It worked out.

Programming@programming.dev•Vibe Coding is not an excuse for low-quality work
0·1 year agoIn G’MIC, there’s
repeat(num_of_iters,_var_name,code(););on JIT code, and repeat code_block done outside of JIT. It has while, for, dowhile on JIT too. Other than repeat, there is only do while, and for which is while outside of JIT.Note:
_var_name,can be omitted. So, if you need to just repeat a code N times, that can be removed.
Eh, I rather write code by hand no matter how long it takes.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•i use edit.com, notepad and geany btw
0·1 year agoI use KDE Kate for my coding. Scripting more accurately to some users, but I don’t find a meaningful distinction.
Yeah. repeat() is unique to a few language. I think just Scala, and G’MIC has it. I use the second one. It’s more convenient than say
for(p=0,p<5,++p,);. Sometimes,repeat(5,);suffice.
I actually use
repeat(iterations,index_name(optionall),);. No need for i++ or ++i for loop in many cases.
I had this problem only once. Luckily, I do not need recursion. I know my way using iterative process.
Numpy is good for that. But, I gravitate toward naturally faster langs where I don’t need to import a library for speed. I use Python for simple, dumb scripts.
Nah. I only used AI as a last resort, and in my case, it has worked out. I cannot see myself using AI for codes again.

Game Development@programming.dev•FuncSug: to make GUI (and so game) programming easier
0·2 years agoI don’t understand the code, but it’s good to see you doing things.

At least there’s non-destructive editing. That always has been a massive argument against GIMP. I used Krita over GIMP for that reason alone.
