politics @lemmy.world•Are Old People Ruining American Democracy?English
0·12 hours agoYeah, there are several new generations of fascists ready to take over when the old ones die off, with exactly the same opinions and goals. It is not an age thing, it is a class thing, but oligarch mouthpieces love to spout this particular brand of obfuscation as part of their propaganda, because it seems to be really succesful strategy.

Programming@programming.dev•The two worlds of programming: why developers who make the same observations about LLMs come to opposite conclusionsEnglish
0·1 day agoor an environment destroying disaster
It is an environment destroying disaster. The fact that AIs have some use-cases doesn’t change that fact. Underneath all the small conveniences you experience as a developer, it will always be busy destroying the environment.
So the question is more, are all those small conveniences worth accelerating our destruction of the climate even further?
He transferred the amounts which had been set aside for the other event to this one. Except clearly this event didn’t cost the $126million which was earmarked for this. So he pocketed at least $100million of those taxpayer funds for himself.

0·2 days agoThere does seem to be an increasing correlation with adherence to right wing politics and cog-loving. Another reason is likely the tendency of right wingers to autopmatically simp for oligarchs and everything they do. So in their minds using AI is “owning the libs”.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do Americans actually use red plastic cups at parties or is that just a Hollywood trope?English
0·3 days agoThe adherence to one type of cup is the weird thing. Most other places it seems there are many different types of cups, so there wouldn’t really be any trope about a particular cup, because it would different from party to party depending on what they bought.

General Discussion@lemmy.world•When do you think the oil shortages will begin?English
0·3 days agoIncorrect: US oil exports hit record high. What does this mean for gas prices?.
The US doesn’t have neither the refinery capacity nor pipeline infrastructure to process all of its extracted crude oil. So that country will be as vulnerable to oil shortages as most others.
