It is a black cat. Seeing ghosts as a black cat is as natural as breathing.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•People outside the US, do you still consider America a democracy?suomi
0·2 years agoWhile I don’t consider the system of governance there very good, I’ll have to agree. While I do absolutely worry for the American democracy, it isn’t a dictatorship in its current form. I also agree that the primaries do make the system better and more democratic. I still think that the two part system is abysmal, but the primaries do make the claim to democracy stronger.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you could start over in any country and take any degree, what would you choose and why?suomi
0·2 years agoI would like to try out being a some short of cop in Sweden or Germany. I’m not 100% sure if this would be my answer if someone actually offered me this, but it would be interesting to see.

0·2 years agoALL planes land. The question is, whether or not there is someone left to clap afterwards.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Adding Canada to the US would drastically increase the number of awesome people in the US.suomi
0·2 years agoIt’s really not that the Canadian government is necessarily any good or even better than the one in the USA. But in case of an invasion there would be a war going on and violent deaths would be expected. Although the part with penises in mouths would most likely constitute a warcrime.

Canada@lemmy.ca•I Dared Defend Canada on X. The Response Was Chillingsuomi
0·2 years agoWhile the situation in the US is indeed very dire, I would say that places like Hungary did fall first. I am also afraid that the US wount be the last to fall. Many countries in Europe are shaky at the moment.
Beautiful place. I know next to nothing about Hong Kong, but I’m glad to see that it is greener than in my imagination.
Where in Lapland was this image taken?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you keep up with news from other countries?suomi
0·2 years agoCheck BBC. They have pretty cood coverage of global news. Other might be Deutsche Welle, which despite the name is in English.
The best option would be to follow the news in Italian if at all possible. I actively follow the news in four languages and it really helps to show how differently they report on the same events. If you ever wonder why, for example, Sweden, Germany and USA have so different opinions on Palestine vs. Israel, just checking how their respective medias report about it in their own languages makes it clearer.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What would you do if there was a zombie apocalypse coming and you had 2 days to prepare?suomi
0·2 years agoDo you have the means to reach this place? Lets say that you get the warning tomorrow, are you able to reach the island?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What would you do if there was a zombie apocalypse coming and you had 2 days to prepare?suomi
0·2 years agoWell… My health conditions mean that I am unlikely to survive long term after apocalypse. Even if no zombies get me. The first week would be fine, the first month maybe, but I wouldnt be alive to see the second year. I could try to do a camping trip to see if the “apocalypse” passes over quickly. If not, then there is no point trying to plan for long term survival.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How can Doge access critical government infrastructure and fire people if it isn't even a real department?suomi
0·2 years agoI watched similar thing happen in my own country. It was just one decision (so far) and made with a very comfortable parlamentary majority. The problem was that it was supposed to be unconstitutional according to wast majority of constitutional experts. That turned out to be absolutely no problem for the parlament and the administration.
It’s not even that I am too much against what they decided, but it did change my views on the nature of law. Any law or constitution is just a paper if it isnt enforced and will carry no weight, when it is simply ignored.

Political Memes@lemmy.world•It's so insane it doesn't feel realsuomi
0·2 years agoIt feels strange seeing this kind of talk in Lemmy and Reddit, while the mainstream media of my country (not-usa) speaks surprizingly little about it. It’s not that I believe them to be MAGA-minded, maybe they are just not sure what to make of it. This just makes me wonder how real it is, when I don’t see anyone “reputable” speaking of it.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•We cosplay as free individuals on the weekend. Sometimes you just gotta get another taste of freedom.suomi
0·2 years agoI’m in a situation where I work only three days a week and get by just fine. As much as I love not having to work 5 days a week, I’m not really feeling “free”. Mostly because I still can’t find to do stuff.
“Betrayal” might be a wrong word for it, but I find this disappointing because the current events are the reason I have tried using Proton instead of Gmail. A tweet wont ruin the functionality of Proton, but it goes against my personal rationale for making the switch.

Very good point. Many of these alternatives with less traffic are much better if one doesn’t see them as 100% replacements.
