0·2 months agoThanks for this. Its very detailed. I heard abt Kagi but I thought it was a meta search engine, thanks for the clarification.
Thanks for letting me know about the barriers ad well and the current damage ai companies are doing. Hopefully, we’ll think of something to beat back the ai companies and Google

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Superman goes after bad drivers and faulty car manufacturers, Action Comics issue 12, 1939English
7·5 months agoI’ve seen the video before and agree, superheroes rarely change the status quo, there are a few exceptions. I think the biggest mainstream example of this was Superman IV film, where Christopher Reeves’ Superman decides to take all the nuclear weapons on Earth and throw them into the Sun. The rest of the movie was pretty bad but the fact that they did something like that in a big budget feature film is amazing!

7·5 months agoYeah I wish Superman would take on more social issues again. It was pretty interesting that they had Superman weigh in on a war between to nations in the new James Gunn movie.
Unless you thinks its ok to sacrifice Syrians and Iranians to placate Trump, I feel like you missed the point of the message

TenForward: Where Every Vulcan Knows Your Name@lemmy.world•The Origin of FerengiEnglish
0·5 months agoI dont know where this started but I know there are variants of the same word in different countries, they say Ferenj in Ethiopia and Farang in Thailand
Edit: I looked it up and found a wikipedia entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farang
Apparently its started as a Persian version of the work Franks that spread during the crusades.
I’ve been having my inner monologue in English for since I was a teenager but I think deep down my mother tongue language is the language of my subconscious

0·6 months agoIs it cannon that Santa knows Jesus’ teaching? I know the original Saint Nicholas was religious but the version that is popular now (who lives in the north pole, who uses elves and flying reindeer) seems non religious.
Also, how can Mary know the teachings of her son before she gave birth to him?

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Does Bonfire have any public instances?English
0·7 months agoI dont fully understand either, thats why I wanted to join an instance to see the difference. So far it looks like Mastadon but you can filter your feed based on “most boosted”, “most liked”, “most commented”, instead of only a chronological feed only. it also has a feature called “circles” which I think is the equivalent of a facebook group but I haven’t tried it yet.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you speak a language that has a formal 'you', when do you use it?English
0·8 months agoIn Amharic, spoken in Ethiopia, you use the the formal you in formal settings (mostly work or legal related matters) or when speaking to an elderly person. The informal you has variations for women and men but the formal you is gender neutral.
