0·21 days agoIn general, it’s unwise to cite carpetbaggers who don’t account for the full systemic impacts of their data centers.
See, for example: https://www.eesi.org/articles/view/data-centers-and-water-consumption
Powering data centers with renewable energy sources, like solar or wind, requires significantly less water consumption than obtaining energy from fossil fuel power plants. With approximately 56% of the electricity used to power data centers nationwide coming from fossil fuels, deploying more clean energy to power these facilities can significantly reduce water consumption. Coal plants are the most water-intensive facilities, requiring approximately 19,185 gallons of water per megawatt-hour (MWh) of power generation. Natural gas power plants consume approximately 2,800 gallons per MWh. In 2022, 40% of all total U.S. annual water withdrawals, or about 48.5 trillion gallons, were made by coal and gas power plants. Of those 48.5 trillion gallons, 962 billion gallons of water were consumed and were no longer available for direct downstream use.

Technology@lemmy.world•For the 100th time: it's going to keep getting worse. AMD's Q4 price hike hasn't even landed yet. Buy your graphics card NOW.English
17·24 days agoIt doesn’t. This is the system working as designed.
The best way to live a rage-free life is to never, ever learn how the financial system really works.

United States | News & Politics@lemmy.ml•This never ending animosity is the sadest thing in my lifetimeEnglish
0·27 days agoWhat you call “brilliance” others call “sexual assault”. Weinstein and Kevin Spacey ran in the same circles and abused many of the same people. He wasn’t alone - there was an entire network of scumbags complicit in enabling him to perpetrate his crimes. Whatever the artistic merits of any Miramax film may be, a substantial majority of them contain one or more victims in the cast and crew; and that’s before we try to estimate how many brilliant actors’ careers were ruined because they told him No.
You can try to rationalize your lack of eethical standards any way you feel like. You have to look yourself in the mirror. But it’s plain to see that you are rationalizing an acceptance of viciousness and cruelty. Those of us opposed to your sick values do not need to coddle you. You’re far too old to be thinking this way. Yet, here you are, sitting in Trump’s America, unironically saying you’re cool with pedos and rapists, just so long as the pedos and rapists do something entertaining for you and as long as they’re not raping your kid.

0·27 days agoIncorrect. The only “professional skill” he has is lying. You have simply chosen to believe the lies rather than admit that you’ve been duped.
Your fragile ego is not evidence of his capability. You’re talking about a man with extremely advanced dementia and narcissistic personality disorder. He’s not competent. Like you, he’s a psychopath.

0·27 days agoThe devil doesn’t need more advocates. But thank you for letting us know that you’re cool with rapists and pedophiles. Most likely because you are one yourself.
That’s edema.
It’s the same thing that’s been causing swelling around his feet and ankles.
It’s a sign of heart failure. It means the Big Beautiful Obituary isn’t far off.

0·27 days agoI guarantee you there are better people to align your opinions with. You chose that particular person for a reason. Whatever that reason was isn’t good enough to overcome the fact that Trump is a pedophile and you chose to say “I agree with that pedo.”
People don’t reference Ted Kaczynski’s academic works if they can cite someone else. People don’t tend to bring up Jared Fogle’s Subway commercials in a positive light now that he’s in prison. There’s nobody talking about, “But what about the good things Jeffrey Epstein did?”
One again, the scumbag doth protest too much.

So, you’re old enough to know better.
I support Trump
And yet you unironically side with a Rapist, a Pedophile, and a convicted felon.
Stop with the crocodile tears. You’re not sad. You’re a psychopath.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Did you ever work for a manager that treats employees like something expendable?English
0·1 month agoI used to work for a skip-level manager who openly expressed that he would not approve spending corporate funds on employee certifications, but he would approve spending money on training. He believed that employees who got the certs were more likely to take the knowledge outside the company, while those with only the knowledge were more incentivized to stay.
I exited that company less than a year later, the company itself was bankrupt less than 3 years later.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why don’t we separate the art from the artist?English
0·1 month agoIt’s cute that you think you’re being judged, kiddo.
Give it a couple decades. Maybe with experience, you’ll understand the old saying that youth is wasted on the young.

0·1 month agoYou don’t know my life, my hardships etc. don’t pretend you do.
You thinking that’s what I’m doing is why I’m saying what I’m saying.
You haven’t yet matured to the point where you understand not everything everyone else says and does is about you. Other people live rich, detailed lives that are completely unlike your own and you will never understand the huge varieties of ways the world works until you get outside your own tiny, self-centered universe.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why don’t we separate the art from the artist?English
0·1 month agoMy point is: not all art is political.
Everything is political. You have just lived such a privileged life that you haven’t been required to see why.
You have “just gotten” things throughout your life that others have had to fight for. And you now take it for granted that everyone has your same experience. Not everyone is so privileged because the people who operate the systems that benefit you, are taking far too much from others in order for you to have those privileges.
As soon as you start seeing the things that others are forced to do that you’ve never had to confront, then you will understand why everything is political. Then you will understand what a disservice you’re doing to your fellow man by not doing your part to ensure everyone else gets the privileges you already take for granted.

0·1 month agoWell I’m not conservative. Fuck the conservatives
This is the first thing most conservatives say right before they start offering opinions on traditional gender roles, homophobia, transphobia, isolationism, nationalism, and a whole myriad of other things that tells us you need to read more broadly and stop listening to Joe Rogan.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why don’t we separate the art from the artist?English
0·1 month agoYou should try asking yourself how artists create art. Where did that art come from that you so badly want to disconnect from the artist’s mind that produced it? What ideas is the artist expressing that you’re choosing to ignore?
What ideas did the artist also hold that are the reason the rest of human society decided that this artists art did not need to persist?
For example - These are questions that anyone involved in anything “Lovecraftian” needs to answer for themselves.
