The guy in Front is Walter Masterson. The other I don’t know. As well as the context. Masterson did tons of satirical activism oder the years, often on Trump Ralleys and MAGA events.
MAGA folks are conspiracy nuts and AFAIK one of them is that USAID was a tool of the CIA to have influence over foreign governments (or smth like that). Which was peddled by anti-imperialists originally, AFAIK. It wouldn’t surprise me if this somehow transpired into MAGA circles and was interpreted as an instrument purely used by democrat elites to rob hard working Americans of their tax dollars, which is of course happening more than ever under their current kleptocratic “government”.

Owning a “refurbished” (some other fediverse user told me those are shit though) Pixel 6 for a year now as I don’t need the latest and greatest and wanted to test drive GrapheneOS. Previous phones were mostly new low to mid-price Motos with LineageOS. But this beats them all. The camera is great. National (FOSS) ID app works via NFC with my physical ID-card. Navigation (also offline and with integrated TTS) with OsmAnd works great. Google’s camera app works even without activated Play Service. KDE-Connect works. Using the excellent Fossify apps for calendar, gallery and file manager. JTXBoard for notes and tasks where the latter are synced to my Nextcloud (as well as calendar appointments, contact list, RSS-News, podcasts via gpodder-Nextcloud sync). The exceptional FUTO keyboard supports Speech-To-Text and swiping via local AI and models (which works very good).
I install most apps via Obtainium directly from APKs from release pages on Github and Codeberg (even the official German ID app) after vetting how many devs are working on the app, how many stars it has and how much LLMs were used in the development. Then if no APK is available the next app source is F-Droid, then if it’s not on there, Aurora store for pure Play Store apps, then if it’s a paid app and/or it needs Play Services, I switch to the second profile on which sandboxed Play Services are enabled and I’m logged in to the Play Store.
Did not test banking or payment as I rather do that on the PC and via card/cash.

Germany has handed China the solar market back then in 2012. It’s called the “Altmaierknick” (Altmaier-Dent). Peter Altmaier (back then environmental minister, luckily out of politics now) and Katharina Reiche (back then environmental secretary) were measurably responsible for the loss of 100,000 jobs in Germany’s solar sector because they made solar purposefully inattractive for private owners. Solar energy production shrunk by 70% or so. I read that a year later or so after Altmaier previously criticized the Chinese gov for substituting solar businesses, he suddenly agreed that Germany should sell solar tech to China so they could speed up their clean energy transformation. The EU was involved in that somehow, too.
Both Altmaier and Reiche are of course conservatives (CDU) and they therefore had/have vested interests in conserving the fossil fuel industry. With Reiche it’s openly known that she has deep ties to them. It’s very coherent they would sabotage clean energy.
Reiche is now minister of economy at a time when fossil fuel dependency shows it’s uglier face she sure will continue the phenomenal course of the Greens/SPD in the previous government, right? (the graph shows the annual growth of solar grouped by different German governments).
From 2006 to 2021 every coalition was dominated by the conservative CDU (and once neo-lib FDP in 2010-2013). 2022-2025 was the first government with a non-governing CDU in 16 years, now with Greens, social democrats and the ultimate downfall of it, the neo-liberal FDP. One can see on the graph what Habeck and the other Greens had accomplished.
To add insult to injury Habeck as an economy minister excelled on Katharina Reiches expertise (as an ex CEO of fossil fuel companies) where she fails spectacularily: Habeck (who allegedly destroyed Germany’s economy according to many Germans) established a pretty constant natural gas reserve fill level of 90-100% after making contracts all over the world and cutting ties with Russia when their little spec-op began. Build-Up of LPG terminals was a result where he additionally had green hydrogen in mind before the coalition was sabotaged and we had the conservatives back 1 year earlier than the regular 4-year term.

Ach ja zusätzlich ist auch noch ziemlich cool, dass du Abhängigkeiten zwischen deinen Containern festlegen kannst. Wenn ein Webserver-Container z.B. von einem Datenbank-Container abhängig ist, kannst du in der Quadlet-Datei des Webserver-Containers mit “After=MyDB.container” angeben, dass dieser eben erst nach starten des Datenbank-Containers gestartet werden soll.

Ja u.A. kannst du festlegen ob die SystemD-units, die aus deinen Quadlet-Dateien generiert werden, nach einem reboot neu gestartet werden. Dieses feature ist leider eines der wenigen, wenn nicht einzigen, unintuitiven, dass ich bemerkt habe. Normalerweise legst du ja mit “systemd enable SERVICE” fest, dass der service beim booten gestartet werden soll. Bei den Quadlets funktioniert das über die “[Install]” Sektion in den Quadlet-Dateien. Hier ein fantastischer, knackig kompakter Blog-Artikel mit Erklärungen zu diesem und anderen Aspekten rund um Quadlets.
Das schöne an Quadlets ist, dass du keine ellenlangen “podman run[…]” Befehle mehr eingeben musst um deine Container zu starten/stoppen oder im Fall von podman-compose erst in die Verzeichnisse wechseln musst, in denen deine docker-compose.yml Dateien liegen. Im Falle eines rootless-Betriebs (siehe Blog-Artikel) Podman, schreibst du eine Quadlet-Datei (z.B. jellyfin.container) die ziemlich ähnlich ist zu einer SystemD Service-Unit-Datei, führst danach ein paar Schritte (im Blog beschrieben) einmalig aus und kannst dann zukünftig über “systemctl --user start|stop|status quadletname” mit deinen containern interagieren, egal wo du gerade im Dateisystem unterwegs bist.
Außerdem schreiben deine Container damit auch in das System-Journal und deren log kann dann z,B. über “journalctl --user -xeu jellyfin.service” eingesehen werden. Zusätzlich können neben .container (Quadlet) Dateine auch .network und .volume Dateien genutzt werden, in denen deine Podman Netzwerke und Volumes definiert werden. Dementsprechend ist das ganze auch ziemlich nice für Versionierung.

Hab mein meine Docker Umgebung auf meinem Heim-Bediener (Caddy-Proxy, Dockhand, Owncloud, Forgejo, Jellyfin, Tandoor, Open-WebUI, Ollama, Beszel, WinBoat) und auf meinem VPS (zusätzlich NTFY und Molly-Socket) auf rootless Podman umgestellt. Erst noch via podman-compose und jetzt alles komplett mit SystemD via Quadlets.
Als ich das das erste Mal probiert habe bin ich 0 klar gekommen aber einige chats mit der kostenlose ChatGPT Variante haben meinen Horizont sehr erweitert. Es läuft jetzt alles, sogar GPU Unterstützung für Ollama. Für den Caddy proxy der die services in den Podman containern ausliefert, benutze ich redir SystemD services, was noch nicht ideal ist aber die meisten anderen services laufen ohne viel Anpassungen. Meist müssen nur die korrekten Rechte für volume mounts gesetzt werden.
Mit den ganzen supply chain attacks fühl ich mich jetzt sehr viel sicherer. Falls du interesse an den quadlet files hast (sollte dein docker stack ähnlich sein), könnte ich u.U. dir das per mail senden. Ich möchte das ganze noch nicht veröffentlichen, da ich noch an 'ner blog Reihe dazu schreibe.
Yeah not eating enough protein does that. Try TVP. It’s an extremely versatile (Chilli, Lasagne, meatloaf, meat balls, bolognese, Asian fried noodles etc.) and cheap (for now) replacement for ground beef. It seems to have a better amino acid profile than chicken:

It blows chicken out of the water regarding minerals like iron, magnesium or calcium. Compare the TVP-spec-sheet with this. Tofu (if made with gypsum as a coagulant) is even more packed with calcium, where 100g can already mean more than 1/2 of your daily needs.
Chicken comes with more vitamins (but also antibiotically resistant bacteria, chloride, growth hormones and animal suffering), while TVP brings anti-oxidants in the form of isoflavinoids.

It provides screenshots, categories and icons for Flatpak packages. AFAIK those aren’t provided by AUR or the official Arch repositories. Icons seem to be integrated for some official packages at least.
A Shelly in-built way for user contributed additional data for Arch packages could be a way to tackle this. But that needs additional infrastructure, developers and volunteers who curate the contributions.
Shelly is a nice frontend. Octopi is too, to quickly check PKGBUILDs, show contained files or open the respective AUR page.
Also: animal ag uses 80% of all arable land with most of it destined for grazing land (which a lot of (rain-)-forest had to be razed for) while only producing 17% of global calories and 38% of global proteins. The rest comes from human edible plants. A global switch to a plant based diet would reduce land usage from 4 to 1 billion. But that would be eco-fascism, I guess. Wonder if this is eco-fascism too.

Congratulations for getting rid of your asthma. Know how that feels. Had pollen allergies through my whole teenage and young adult years which are completely gone now. First. I think I’m not parasocial. I just watch him (like most of us I guess), because he gives us easy consumable but knowledgeable insights into complicated historical and current geopolitical events. I picked up quite a few topics and read up on them I wasn’t aware of before I started watching him.
Him reporting and exposing himself on political events talking to the base and doing interviews with a lot of progressive politicians shows he is far from the sheltered grifting political arm-chair commenter, haters here and in the highest circles of spin-doctoring want him to paint as.
As you sharply described in your post with the “and yet you participate in society” meme, I’d too rather watch political analyses by someone whose opinions match my personal ideas of a just world, him being a millionaire or not. Bernie Sanders is a millionaire too, I guess, but I love listening to him as well. And opposed to consumers of content from real grifters, I don’t think I’ll ever be a millionaire.
Heck, Hasan interviewed two billionaires with political ambitions recently who had surprisingly progressive views and plans. Yes nobody should be a billionaire but if they at least really want to do good with their money, they can live. See MacKenzie Scott. And those claiming Hasans trip to Cuba was just egocentric self-promotion, has no idea how much he burns for recitifying the injustice Cubans are exposed to by the US.
OMG. Now it has become a wall of text again and I haven’t even addressed any points of your observations on the video. I agree with you in what you wrote. Yes the dreaded internet problems and him being jet-lagged wouldn’t justify him mishandling his dog. But as the trainer pointed out, he wasn’t doing this at all even when he slightly yelled at her. Yes the clips he reacted to were very condensed and didn’t show any of the million of interactions he had with his dog clearly showing he’s a reponsible handler.
But it all doesn’t matter anyway, as we all know this is all part of a big political assassination campaign and the critics bringing this up care as much about Kaya as they care about the animals they have on there plates (as Hasan too does, btw).
Here’s a video from a professional dog trainer, who claims he didn’t know Hasan prior, analyzing the incident and the device. He concluded that it wasn’t a shock- but a vibration-collar (or used as such). He did not see any misconduct from Hasan. I read somewhere the trainer was massively harassed after the video.
AFAIK he doesn’t run AD’s. Watching him for a year now. I’ve never seen any sponsored content. Maybe he gets money from the politicians he interviews on stream but I doubt it. He only invites those who he has a serious interest in growing their platform. He doesn’t seem to sell out. He regularly mentions his work is solely sponsored by his viewers. I don’t claim that he isn’t a multi millionaire but I don’t see how this invalidates his positions or work.
