Jellyfin is 90% plex, and it’s impressive how it comes forward in leaps and bounds, but it’s not better than plex. People just appreciate it more.

If you only need that 90% that it does (and don’t need things like intro detection, conversions, mobile sync, ass/sas subtitles), then you’ll come away super happy with not having to pay plex and not being locked into plex.

Lemmy (and reddit to a degree) is not like other social networks where you are lumped into one giant community. It’s many communities, and you’ll find that you are welcome in some and not welcome in others. That includes your politics and your views.

I don’t think I’d be very welcome in a community of conspiracy nuts, especially when I counter everything they say. I think they would remove me from that community at some point, and that’s okay, self policing of communities is okay. Sometimes you aren’t welcome.

Azure products ask you for your identity and signin a lot. Honestly, I’m asked to log in again at least once every 24 hours. That’s assuming I don’t traverse some sort of service wall where I’m now in a different system after clicking a link.

I do cloud engineering for a living, and I would probably fall for at least some phishing things around Azure, specifically because azure identity management is so obtuse and constantly asking for things.

It’s absolutely on the system that Microsoft designed , and the practices they encourage, and the mitagations that apparently don’t exist.

takedowns are automated these days, either through full automation or paying low cost labor in places like India to just do google searches. Rockstar isn’t “doing” anything here, aside from paying someone else to issue the takedowns. and the someone else doesn’t know enough or care enough to apply logic that would cause all the other versions to get taken down too.

edit, just to ask you to be better lemmy community, we’ve totally lost everything that was good about this place and now it’s just become a mirror of modern reddit.

i know this falls on deaf ears, and just causes more people to press the angry down button immediately, but all I ask is that you try to be better and foster a better community.

Reminder that CDProjekt is a public company, so this basically doesn’t mean anything. There’s a number where they can’t say no (because the board would force it), and no one has offered that number (yet? microsoft is looking pretty desperate after their buyouts thus far haven’t exactly set the world on fire)

Gaben is old, and he’s gonna retire. It’ll likely be a lot sooner than anyone here is comfortable with. When Valve gets sold, or even when gaben isn’t in total control anymore, things are going to start changing, and there isn’t going to be a healthy, diverse marketplace to soften that.

There is a very good chance that the PC platform will be a really horrible place because of the lack of consumer choice in which they can purchase and play games.
