  • I haven’t any right to criticise books, and I don’t do it except when I hate them. I often want to criticise Jane Austen, but her books madden me so that I can’t conceal my frenzy from the reader; and therefore I have to stop every time I begin. Everytime I read ‘Pride and Prejudice’ I want to dig her up and beat her over the skull with her own shin-bone.

    • Mark Twain

  • There are only a couple on there I have actually read, a few more I’ve heard of. The Cormac McCarthy books I enjoyed, insofar as one can enjoy those subjects (The Road and Blood Meridian). The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K LeGuin is one I’d recommend to fantasy/scifi fans. And when I was younger I didn’t enjoy it, but I always find myself engaged with Hemingways stories even when I think I won’t be (A farewell to arms).
