my friend had a pretty expensive/high-end hp laptop, got Hinge Problems after a few years of usage.

nah i’m already more of a *nix guy than windows. but i still have numerous things that work better with windows. my main laptop runs slackware and my desktop freebsd.
disroot maybe? afaik they’re fully foss

i mark all comments i like to read them again later.

at least on LTSC 2019, after extensive tweaking on gpedit/regedit i could confirm no unwanted background network traffics at all. but having to actively fight the OS is really awful… and an update brings some of them back.

etools.ch is the least worst one i found

i always use curl icanhazip.com for checking my external IP… iirc some “IoT” devices also use it for some reason

i haven’t really used ironfox, i use iceraven. i actually also use numatrix alongside ublock origin.
i do see more captchas compared to common browsers like google chrome.

i’d just use ironfox with ublock origin

it works on unbranded (“Nightly”) builds, the “Developer” build, and also the ESR build but doesn’t work on normal/default firefox. afaik you can still load it temporarily in about:debugging or something. I personally just use ESR.
edit: i see you’re on windows… i tend to use this firefox fork there. https://github.com/e3kskoy7wqk/Firefox-for-windows-7
patched to be compatible on win7, but it works fine on 10/11 and supports unsigned addon
