Which also occurs in albums as well. There are plenty of filler music in almost every album ever made. If anything, streaming disincentivizes filler tracks - each track has to compete for attention. Though, in practice this is going to depend on recommendation and discovery algorithms.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What profession do y'all hate with deepest of passion
0·5 months agoThere are definitely many power hungry and disingenuous politicians. Probably the vast majority. BUT hating politicians as a rule is just antidemocratic cynicism IMO. An excuse to not pay attention, to not hold politicians accountable, and to not want to compromise under any circumstance.
This has nothing to do with grammar.

Technology@lemmy.ml•China develops iron battery 80 times cheaper than lithium that can last 16 years. It provides a budget-friendly, high-endurance answer for the world’s massive energy storage needs.
0·6 months agoThis is just a shallow, cynical, anti-intellectual remark.
Sodium ion batteries are already hitting production.
Iron flow and vanadium redox batteries also already exist in the real world.
Grid and residential battery installations are happening at a rapidly accelerating pace.
Lithium ion battery prices have dropped something like 90% over the last 15 years.
Battery technology is improving at dramatic rate, both lithium ion and non lithium ion solutions.
That basically describes the CEO I believe.
There are also studies showing certain plants do well too. Also ignoring that a truly massive amount of cropland is being used for ethanol, which is a much less efficient form of energy than solar.

Science@mander.xyz•Fluoride in drinking water has no effect on IQ or brain function, long-term study shows
0·6 months agoI mean, its fine - but it just isn’t overly meaningful for how we make decisions as individuals. But to design a scenario where we would absolutely see an effect is valuable to see if we should invest more money into larger studies.

Technology@lemmy.ml•CATL launches sodium batteries: extremely durable and stable at –40°C
0·9 months agoWhy do you assume economies of scale don’t work on sodium ion batteries? We are just launching the first commercial products, which indeed is a hard time for new technology and sodium does need to pass the hurdle of “get to scale”, but sodium has the potential to be dirt cheap once fully scaled and realized.

United States | News & Politics@midwest.social•Progressives Rip 'Spineless' Dem Leaders for 'Empty' Response to Trump's Venezuela Attack
0·10 months agoIts time for the Democrat party to fall to the wayside - the people and organization itself is unsalvageable and does not represent the people they claim to represent. This was abundantly clear with the reactions to Mandani - immediate distancing from really standard policies and positions because he wasn’t part of the “in” crowd.
They don’t care about wealth inequality, social welfare policies, gender, sexual orientation race, and religious equality, or any other baseline remotely progressive, left, or even liberal policy.

Technology@lemmy.world•The 512KB Club is a collection of performance-focused web pages from across the Internet. To qualify your website must both be actually useful and under 512KB in size.English
0·1 year agoA small critique of that project - a large portion of the websites included are simply personal sites for developers - nothing barely more technical than a business card or CV. I would exclude those or categorize them differently, as to me their “usefulness” seems relatively edge case.

0·1 year agoMy favorite part of the egg saga is the recent executive order - where trump wants to pressure California to reduce regulations on eggs. Despite the fact that, a large part of the spikes in egg prices and availability were directly influences by massive cullings caused by poorly regulated and unhealthy environments.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Wages are stagnant and cost of living is ridiculous. Are we headed for a crash?
0·1 year agoMeh, please don’t quote unusual statistics without giving any context for how to interpet them.
For this value, it is calculated by:
Using data compiled by the federal government’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, the True Rate of Unemployment tracks the percentage of the U.S. labor force that does not have a full-time job (35+ hours a week) but wants one, has no job, or does not earn a living wage, conservatively pegged at $25,000 annually before taxes.
24.3% is not that out of the ordinary - you can see historical data back to like, 1995 here.
Not saying this stat is useless, but the way you’ve chosen to use it is intentionally and inaccurately inflammatory.

0·1 year agoI am not so sure - i think that many many young folk are both more open to it and are disenchanted with the democrat party - and this will continue to grow with the old guard insisting on shooting themselves in the foot by stubbornly resisting Mamdani in new york immediatelt after 3 “Vote Blue No Matter Who” campaigns for the in the last few presidential elections.
