Privacy@lemmy.ml•Researchers Uncover Signs of Massive Surveillance Operation on Starlink Users
12·8 days agoI really want to post this to r/IndiaTech on reddit. Few of the fellas there are simps for Starlink because a village with hundreds to a few thousands of people need it (spoiler alert: they don’t. The government owned company BSNL is already laying fibre in villages).
But I don’t have an account ughh.
Authentik with passwordless flow. I have two options at login—Sign in with Passkey or Sign in with Google for my family.

Technology@lemmy.world•Self-hosting Doesn't Actually Save You Money, And The People Who Promise It Does Are Setting Beginners Up To QuitEnglish
1·13 days agoHuh?! My server and a 8tb external hdd costed me 40k inr (bought 1.5 years ago). It consumes less than 200-300inr worth of electricity per month. With that I am self-hosting Immich, Jellyfin, Paperless-ngx, Vaultwarden (Used by 7-8 users with family organisation), Firefly-iii, linkwarden, a central syncthing nodes which is synced with my client devices, media tracker, arr stack with qbittorrent. With a Proton VPN subscription of 7.5k inr/year and backblaze for cloud backs about 150inr per month, it costs me just ~10k (~100usd) a year in runnings costs for subscriptions worth of 50-60k a year. With those savings I can literally buy a really good Moped every 2-3 years. Granted my nvme in the server is due replacement in a year because it is a lower quality one and has already worn out by 40%. But it definitely saves a ton of money when you have cheap electricity.

A lot of marketing material for a product is provided by the manufacturers of a product. Small shops, at-least from my knowledge, don’t have the resources to create marketing material. So blaming them doesn’t really work unless they are making their own products (like restaurants, hand-crafted items, etc).

0·19 days agoSame bruh. Reddit’s decline is real. In Indian feeds, I only see people posting reels from Insta, thirst trap LLM slop in fashion subReddits or sexually deprived men fantasising about content creators and bollywood actresses in celeb subReddits.

0·21 days agoI tend to avoid Flatpaks if the package is directly available in official Repos or even in an unofficial repo. If I have to download it from the AUR then I will check if a Flatpak version exists or not and install it from there.

0·24 days agoMy use-case for browsers is just searching stuff, opening a website, reading stuff—the basics. Even on desktop the only extensions I use other than ad-blockers are Bitwarden, Sponsor Block and Return YT dislikes.

0·24 days agoI tried literally everything (troubleshooting mode, uninstall all extensions, use the default state on a new profile, use the default state on a fresh install, use arkenfox user.js, etc) before installing brave origin. Even tried Librewolf. But seems like a Gecko issue for me. I was later told to diagnose what is slowing it down using the network tab but I had already switched by then and didn’t want to troubleshoot anymore when Brave Origin works flawlessly for me.
Also on Android I don’t need any plugins other than an ad-blocker which brave has built in. Only downside to Brave is that I have to turn off their Crypto bullshit. So yeah brave ticks all the boxes for me currently.

0·24 days agoAgreed and upvoted but the browser is good. It works better than pretty much anything out there especially on android. Firefox for me is getting slower on desktop for some reason. Websites take a lot of time to load.
