Today, I’m just an opinionated Canadian writer with time on my hands. The world is a different place today, including the Donald Trump saga that ‘keeps on giving.’ That alone gives me lots to write and comment on. (Flippen Canadian is my handle) Check out more of my stories at @ https://flippen.ca/

That was a part of the reason but if you remember, they were in and out of US courts of infringement rights, or this reason and that. The president himself had one until “being it was an offshore provider.” and Apple has caught up. Yeah, they might have been slow on the upgrade; however, the Americans helped Blackberry go by way of the do-do bird. They do not like the competition… The whole story is not so crazy. Living in the BB community, you hear all kinds of stories you will not read.
We all remember the Canadian BlackBerry phone, the yanks wanted access to all the phone calls from Google, BlackBerry and all the other providers in the states. BlackBerry built their popularity to be a secure system and refused the yanks; the other said they did not give in to the demands, but we know they all did. They could not force Canadian Blackberry; “bottom line,” they were kicked out of the states and are now gone. Unfortunately, as one person said, Canadians use their servers, Google, for looking up your car parts. If you think the two-sided camera on your phone is for your convenience, I suggest not taking it into the washroom with you.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Doctor Removed From Ontario Medical Association AGM for Refusing to Take Off Watermelon Pin
0·1 month agoI myself believe that it was a political statement, and if left unchecked, there would be others doing the same, but for a different cause. I guess if the cause was close to home, you would feel compelled to express your feelings, ‘and I get that,’ but looping back to, let one do it, and then there were two. Now this comment is only my opinion, and I’m glad to say, I didn’t have to make the call.

Canada@lemmy.ca•'Use your brain': Hundreds march in Vancouver against AI data centre expansion
0·1 month agoOne reader wrote: The electricity demand, (WATER CONSUMPTION) and air pollution are generally not valid concerns. I, however, disagree. There was an article showing how much water they actually use for cooling per day, and it was astounding. For some reason, the article is no longer available for public viewing, or I would’ve shared the link. My simple desktop computer gets warm from use, my phone gets hot when it’s doing too much thinking. Simple comparison, but the same and BIGGER.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Travel to the U.S. is down even more dramatically than we thought, data shows
0·2 months agoWe have not travelled to the States for many years, but I must admit, I miss the people and the exciting places we went. Can I find fun places like that in Canada? Absolutely. But it is too bad that one person, one man out of 50 billion people, can turn people against each other the way he has. So with today’s events, I don’t foresee going back to the States any time soon. But I believe that most of the people down agree with their fearless leader, but … “what can they do?”

0·2 months agoI feel sorry for government bodies such as cities and municipalities that have to deal with big corporations. Most would have a dozen sharp lawyers on the payroll with a sole purpose to flim-flam smaller communities. Whereas, maybe one ‘close to retirement,’ lawyer on the government payroll.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Poll finds 51% of Canadians want aid sent to Cuba even if it angers U.S.
0·3 months agoI would like to see Canada go into Cuba and help straighten out their farming issues, and our dependence on the United States ’ off-season fresh food supply. It helps them with curancy issues,
I don’t drive much anymore because of the cost of gasoline; however, giving the small tax break in diesel fuel some thought, I would sooner donate my 10-cent discount to the truckers who have to increase their transportation cost for the food they deliver. I would donate my share to the farmers who will also have to “up their prices” for the food they grow because of diesel costs. The price of Diesel fuel has not dropped much despite the widespread implications it has on consumers. Does the tax on Gas make sense to you? Na. “” Could it be done better? “” I would think. Diesel equipment did not get any tax relief, and we will feel that tenfold.
Sorry folks for the negative thought, but it just gives all sides time to R&R and rearm. I don’t think it’s over.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Canada ‘abandoning’ international law with support for U.S. strikes on Iran, say former diplomats
0·4 months agoI am sad that our Prime Minister endorsed this illegal act by the US and Israel. What would happen when and if Canada decides to manufacture its own nukes for protection? International Law must be only a guideline that you can cross whenever the mood strikes you.

0·4 months agoI have to wonder, last time I checked Canada is a sovereign country, why can trump dictate who we can help and who we can not. My opinion: we should help the Cuban People as much as we can and give the Trumpsters the middle finger salute.
