I got on the reservation list for a friend :) He didn’t even get on the wait-list, haha. But he had a smart plan to ask as many friends as possible to sign up and actually two of us were chosen. I am not even interested in Frame, I do have a Steam Deck, but otherwise I’m a console gamer and VR was never fun to me (I tried multiple headsets), I just like pancake games more.

Interesting news regarding BookOrbit. I was having some difficulty deciding between BookOrbit and Grimmory and now I don’t have that dilemma anymore. :)

I use Hetzner Storage Box. I don’t have a NAS, so it’s a cost that I’d rather avoid. I see it costs not much less than a new nvme disk. I’m just trying to juggle what I have.

I use Podman on my desktop, but only for that single container (I need Microsoft SQL Server for work). I know they are 99% compatible, including CLI syntax, but in that 1% cases things might break and thus https://selfhosting.sh/ is recommending to stick to Docker for newbies, because almost all tutorials are written for Docker. I don’t know, I might try with Podman, however I don’t really need a steeper learning curve if whatever setup guide for some service that I’m using is not compatible with Podman.

I’m halfway through “Cibola Burn” (The Expanse #4), it’s a real page turner! So far my second favorite book of the series.

So the trick is to keep the OS minimal, install only Docker from its repo and install anything else in Docker containers.

Why from Docker’s repo and not from Debian’s? I just did a quick apt search docker and I see docker.io and docker-cli.

So, theoretically, I could run Proxmox on the VPS if it’s running Debian? I read that Proxmox requires a lot of RAM and VPSes are too expensive in that regard. But I might run Proxmox at home, I have a beefy PC with 64GB of RAM, except it doesn’t turn on right now (something died, either the PSU or the motherboard, I still need to have it diagnosed).

One thing I read about is that Ubuntu provides unattended updates, so it can automatically update packages and restart the server (that seems a bit too far ;) ). It’s probably possible on Debian but not out of the box.

I think there are two types of people who care. Collectors and resellers / buyers of used copies.

I play a mix of games, some digital and some physical. I don’t buy used copies (I, perhaps naively, believe that I support the developers by purchasing new copies — and by “support” I mean they can make more games that I like), but I sell the games that I have finished (well, most of them). I think I buy/play more digital games than physical, part of the reason is PS Plus / PS Portal.

However, I don’t like that Sony wants to abandon physical media. I believe customers should have a choice. Also, the digital versions are almost always more expensive than physical, and for years they’ve been misleading us into believing that digital distribution is supposed to be cheaper. Yeah, right.

If Sony controls all means of distribution, by cutting off physical media, they will further increase prices for games and subscriptions, because why not. Consumers will have no choice if they still want to play on their PlayStation.

“Cibola Burn” by James S.A. Corey, so The Expanse #4. I like the TV series a lot (watched first, before reading the books), I really liked “Leviathan Wakes” and “The Butcher of Anderson Station”, but the second and third volumes were meh. The second one is too similar to the first one and the third one, I don’t know, just didn’t click. “Cibola Burn” is good, finally the themes have changed, the setting has changed (Ilus) and there are new mysteries to uncover (well, I watched the TV series, so the story is kinda spoiled for me, but it’s not like I remember everything).

Hm. All you said is opposite of my experience with Kobo. I have a Forma bought in 2019 that does not lag, has great battery life (after almost 7 years) and all my ebooks work. I have some that I purchased directly from Kobo, some from ebooks.com and some from local stores (no DRM). The Kobo software always has been snappy, I always tell people that Kobo has quality build AND good software, unlike PocketBook (I had InkPad 3 Pro and Era) which lacks in that regard.

I agree that sync tends to be flaky between multiple devices.

I bought a Kobo Libra Colour a couple months ago because I wanted to try a color e-ink reader. Now I have two and I couldn’t tell which one is better because each has some pros and cons over the other model. :)

I had multiple Kindles before switching to PocketBook and Kobo.

I wonder if your particular device had some issues or maybe it was a particular model. Forma was the high end Kobo device, now discontinued.

I’m playing Xenoblade Chronicles X on Switch 2. Only on Chapter 4. It took me a few hours of patiently waiting for RNG to drop White Cometite for Lin’s affinity quest. I read that many people were stuck on that. :) Fortunately, I was able to explore some other areas and do some simple tasks in the meantime.

That’s on Nintendo front, on my Steam Deck I’m playing AI: The Somnium Files off which I bounced some time ago, but it stuck in my mind and I gave it another go and it clicked this time. Different mindset and expectations, I guess.

The cheapest :P SAGUARO. I actually thought it was Spanish and only on the packaging I saw it’s a Chinese product. I just want to try it out and be able to trash it if I don’t like them, didn’t want to risk with something more expensive. I know that it’s possible that more expensive shoes might be a better fit but still.

I think that may be just Firefox… I feel like Vivaldi is snappier, but I still choose Firefox because it’s not Chromium. And uBlock works here :)

Ah, I see. That sounds good, wish I could do that with my partner, but she doesn’t like the type of books that I read. However, the books she reads are somewhat interesting to me, but I am a slow reader while she’s a very fast one, so it wouldn’t work for two reasons — one is that she’d have to wait for me to catch up and the other is that I get the feeling of spending time reading something that I wouldn’t normally choose and the awareness of the books that I actually want to read sitting there and waiting for me. :) However, maybe if we did that with 1 or 2 books a year… I don’t really have anyone to talk to about books because most people around me don’t read :(
