Gaming@lemmy.ml•Epic Games CEO says it’s ‘really irresponsible’ of Steam to make studios disclose AI use | VGC - 25th Jun 2026
0·6 days ago“If you want to launch a game, and get it as widely publicized as possible, you’ve got to put it on Steam so people can wish list it, and if you want to play it on Steam, then you have to get this Scarlet Letter of AI attached to your product
You don’t have to, just don’t use A.I. Easy.
It’s available on archive.org. I might read this next, thanks!

3·8 days agoI’d prefer a [HUMAN] tag for projects without A.I. But yes, tags would be welcome.

0·1 month agoOh like that, yeah, then that link won’t help either. I’ve had that happen a few times as well, or maybe only noticed it a few times. It’s very frustrating indeed.

0·1 month agoYou can use the no A.I. version of Duck Duck Go instead.
Marriage is something for the wealthy. If you live on welfare in my country and you get married or share a household, you get less money. Also, if you want to marry a foreigner, you need to earn a minimum amount of money, which is unobtainable for a lot of people. This is on purpose to make sure we get less “poor foreigners” here. So marriage is not and never will be for me.

Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•Weekly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing this week?
0·2 months agoThat sucks, but I can see that happening. The first time I played my thumb got a bit stained, but after adjusting my grip it’s been fine. Everybody’s hands are different of course, so I don’t know what would work for you.
The controls are okay, but it’s very obviously a game designed for mouse and keyboard. I use the right track pad to control the pointer, and one thing I’ve found that makes it easier in building mode, is just moving the camera with the left stick instead of trying to move the pointer to draw a long wall for example.
Some things just remain annoying though, like scrolling through the endless list of wallpapers. There’s just no way around moving the pointer all the way to the arrow to click to the next page and back again to select something. It is what it is. I just accept that it’s a slower experience.

0·2 months agoI’ve been playing The Sims 2. The “Legacy Collection” was on sale the other day and I installed it on my Stream Deck. My feelings of nostalgia got the better of me and I’ve been playing it a lot. It’s just so nice to relax with a fun game that I already know and that isn’t demanding.
It runs well on the Steam Deck by the way, I haven’t had any crashes yet. It was a bit tricky to get the console cheats working, but you can set up a button for that. Next thing I’ll try is add some mods.

Books@lemmy.world•What book(s) are you currently reading or listening to? April 14
0·3 months agoI’m currently reading Portrait in Sepia by Isabel Allende. I read some books by her years ago, which I loved, so when I saw this one in a tiny library, I had to take it. I’m not far in yet, but it’s a great read so far.
I finished both Murder on the Orient Express and Murder on the River Nile by Agatha Christie. They were both fun and well-written, but I don’t think detectives are my cup of tea. I may read some more of her work if it’s snowing and I’m in front of a fireplace or something. They’re cozy to read, even with all the murders taking place.

0·3 months agoI’m now reading Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. I was in the mood for something lighter and I had never read it. No murder yet, no idea how the story will unfold. It breathes that old atmosphere of a classic detective, which is really nice.

0·4 months agoI’m now reading Roadside Picnic by the Strugatsky brothers. It’s the novel that inspired both the Tarkovsky movie Stalker and the video game series S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
It’s really well written. I was having a little trouble getting into it at first because it’s different from what I usually read. The story is told from the perspective of a character whom you follow going about their often shady business. It reminded me of the style of film noir detectives. It’s not really my thing, but the book is good enough to keep me reading.
When finished I’m gonna watch the movie with my boyfriend, who has it on DVD. We did this with 1984 as well, which was a good experience.

0·4 months agoI finished both Julia by Sandra Newman and 1984 by George Orwell. I liked 1984 better, much more depth and great writing, but Julia was good too.
I’ve now started Solaris by Stanislaw Lem. I like it so far, but I feel it could have had a bit more depth to it. Still an interesting story so far.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Having the first name of Al must be frustrating as it looks so much like AI.
0·5 months agoWhat’s also frustrating is “al” is a word in Dutch, meaning although or everything. It’s often used at the start of a sentence, thus capitalised and indistinguishable from AI. After reading too much about A.I., which is unavoidable nowadays, it messes with reading everything, because every now and then a sentence starts with “al” and your brain messes up and you have to go back.

0·5 months agoSo, what if I wrote a book and got it published, but it didn’t sell well. Some big company copies it, puts a lot of effort in promoting it and it becomes a bestseller. I don’t get any of the money for it, but they cite me as the original author. How is that fair?
