Nah. Amazon is quicker, no shipping fees, solid return policy and I don’t need to break out the credit card and play challenge puzzles with my bank to use it online. I’ll do my best to support local retailers on foot, but if I’m ordering online, I want quick and reliable. Sadly, that’s Amazon for now.

We were on the same path! I started my own bbs, which eventually got me access to some of the big time bbs clearing houses that had cd towers worth of stuff. They had isdn lines, 28.8 modem banks, etc. I had to do a phone interview with one of them… I think that was “Phantom West” and another one that happened to be in my calling area called “Transfixus Sed Non Mortus”, which eventually got busted. Those Phantom guys actually produced pirated discs and manuals to sell at computer swap meets and to China.

I have seen GWAR: crucify the pope, disembowel George Bush, split Paris Hilton in half, rip babies out of protestors, shove a giant cross up a priest’s ass, chop off a skinhead’s head and throw it into a living toilet and stuff Henry Rollins into a giant meat grinder. Powerful fun. GWAR shows were the best. It’s cartoon violence. Even at it’s most patently offensive, it’s hilarious.

I have a Pi5 8gb running a version of LineageOS that is pretty much a blank slate to roll-yer-own Android TV, at which point you can install Stremio and be off to the races. Requires a little bit of Nerd-Level setup, but wasn’t too bad. Pi4 ran a little hot, but the Pi5 crushed it. Any ole BT remote works. I started with a Firestick remote and upgraded to a 10€ remote later. Have to control my soundbar separately, but whatever. I’m freeeee to sail the seas!

Somewhat related: Hotline is still running on my Mac Mini. The default tracker has lots of hosts listed, focused mostly on old Mac stuff. Hotline used to ripe for plundering back in the day. Would be awesome to see that resurge in popularity again.
