That’s not how it works for me. I don’t have to buy multiple items to qualify for free shipping and often times the prices are comparable,if not cheaper, than the actual retailer offers on their site.
Nah. Amazon is quicker, no shipping fees, solid return policy and I don’t need to break out the credit card and play challenge puzzles with my bank to use it online. I’ll do my best to support local retailers on foot, but if I’m ordering online, I want quick and reliable. Sadly, that’s Amazon for now.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•When did we reach a point piracy has better service than paying?English
0·10 days agoWe were on the same path! I started my own bbs, which eventually got me access to some of the big time bbs clearing houses that had cd towers worth of stuff. They had isdn lines, 28.8 modem banks, etc. I had to do a phone interview with one of them… I think that was “Phantom West” and another one that happened to be in my calling area called “Transfixus Sed Non Mortus”, which eventually got busted. Those Phantom guys actually produced pirated discs and manuals to sell at computer swap meets and to China.
Dogs were off the leash then. Did I need Harvard Graphics? No. Was I downloading it? Yup!
As I grow older and can afford software, apps mostly, I’m ok with throwing a little back to the dev. Can fuck right off with a subscription, however.

0·11 days agoBack in 1983, when my neighbor copied the Monopoly game for me to play on my C64. Cassette drive. Shit took forever to load. Fun af. At that point, the idea of paying seemed ridiculous. Then came the npd bbs era. Aye, matey. 🏴☠️

0·24 days agoI have seen GWAR: crucify the pope, disembowel George Bush, split Paris Hilton in half, rip babies out of protestors, shove a giant cross up a priest’s ass, chop off a skinhead’s head and throw it into a living toilet and stuff Henry Rollins into a giant meat grinder. Powerful fun. GWAR shows were the best. It’s cartoon violence. Even at it’s most patently offensive, it’s hilarious.

0·1 month agoI have a Pi5 8gb running a version of LineageOS that is pretty much a blank slate to roll-yer-own Android TV, at which point you can install Stremio and be off to the races. Requires a little bit of Nerd-Level setup, but wasn’t too bad. Pi4 ran a little hot, but the Pi5 crushed it. Any ole BT remote works. I started with a Firestick remote and upgraded to a 10€ remote later. Have to control my soundbar separately, but whatever. I’m freeeee to sail the seas!
Edit: me am a stupid typer

7·2 months agoWhat’s crazy is that we even need to have this dicsussion about software to look at fkn web pages. Which of these fucks me over the least? Marketing ruins everything it encounters. Marketing to me on the web sites I view just isn’t enough… we’re stuck wondering which of these is going to harm my privacy the least. Feels like we’ve gone beyond the pale here.
