Wow it took them this long to notice everything they are doing could be used against them and this is why tampering with rules to cater to partisanships are usually avoided because at best it’s only just setting a strategy for opposition?

This is the thing: anyone can be a complete asshole. It’s everyone’s choice not to be one. These idiots thought they are cracking code. To the rest of us they are just regressing and leaving the playbook on instructions on how they got away with it and how the system will be changed.

It’s like they don’t even know the litigation tracker is public either.

Has to be the stupidest group of thieves ever to have lived.

I mean, if we look at how the opposition Democrats have played thus far, that is barely a gamble.

I don’t know, they could at least obstruct as much as the Republicans did for them whenever the Democrats were in power and had a chance to pass actual progressive legislation, but chickened out and said they needed to compromise the shit out of it to make a bipartisan effort, since the Republican minority was blocking anything and everything they tried to do.

Nah man, read the article. He’s not regretting his face being eaten, he’s saying that they’ll regret it if leftists get back into power and do the same things back to them. He’s as big a dumb cunt as the rest of them.

“That’s a mistake — one that conservatives could come to regret,” he wrote bluntly. “Whether or not Mr. Trump ultimately succeeds, his attempt to weaponize the tax code sets a troubling and dangerous precedent."
If an administration can threaten liberal institutions today, he argued, “what would stop a leftist administration from targeting churches and synagogues tomorrow?”

“what would stop a leftist administration from targeting churches and synagogues tomorrow?”

That wouldn’t be a very leftist thing to do. That hypothetical administration would ironically be a different flavor of right wing, but whatever. Words don’t mean anything to these people.

He’s on the right track though. “Because I wouldn’t want it turned against me” is the reason we collectively decide to limit powers in the first place. No one wants to be persecuted therefore government shouldn’t have the power to do so.

This has been my biggest argument with right family members. They love it right now, but imagine Dems regain power over these generally unpopular policies; the very things they love this time around would be hated then. They attempted a coup for much less than this.

They won’t regret anything. COVID deniers took their dying breaths to continue insisting it was just a cold.

You can only expect a change of heart in their final seconds, long after it would matter.

And that’s just the difference between the right and the left anyway. With the exception of extremes like nazism, a leftist government would allow churches and let these fkn clowns do whatever they want to do in their free time and live their lives the way they want. Whereas a right wing government will force their religion onto people whether they want it or not and strip generalized groups of people of their rights because apparently their imaginary friend wants them to do that.

If only the big bad left would be a little less tolerant of delusions and stupidity, maybe the world would be a better place. Because the moment the delusional stupid people get the chance, they prove to all of us why they never deserved tolerance in the first place. Seems all too clear to me now that religious conservatives simply cannot be trusted to play nicely with everyone else and should never be allowed near positions of power ever again, just like nazis.

Something I’ve thought about is that religious tax exemptions in America aren’t to prevent the non religious from taxing the religious. It’s to prevent Christian majorities from taxing other religions out of existence.

We can change the tax code to allow tax exemptions for religious organizations with income/assets below a certain thresholds, with punitive measures (actual jail time) for hiding assets.

Or we could require that churches actually do some good with the money they collect in order to qualify for tax exempt status. There should be no religious exemption, if a church wants tax exempt status they should have to do something to deserve it like charity.

I think you are absolutely right.

It would be much simpler to just extend to them charitable expenditures, and only that.

The more charity they do, the less taxes they pay.

The trade off was no tax on churches for no tax on higher education. Trump is going after colleges so it’s time to go after churches

it’s super hard though to convince the IRS your non-christian org should be tax exempt than a christian one. in wording, it seems at face value like what you’ve said. but in practice it’s the single greatest tool the christian hegemony has in this system of oppression.

Trump and Co. are gambling that they can achieve dictatorship before the violence and other shit starts.

Putin smiles in Moscow. Chaos and violence in America is his win. It’s also his win if the US slides into dictatorship and the US population shrugs and goes along quietly.

this is sort of like how the options we’re being presented right now are either civil war or genocide.

too many people are choosing wrong simply because they think a third choice exists
