You’re right, police officers don’t want to die from protestors. That’s why they wear body armor and have armored vehicles, and the National Guard gets deployed if those aren’t enough.
If you pull a gun on a police officer while they’re arresting someone, it’s very likely that you and everyone behind you in the line of fire are going to get shot, repeatedly.
I guess there’s no reason for anyone to protest then. They’ll ignore you or kill you. Why bother with performative bullshit that’ll bear nothing?

The article implies the officers identified her from blocking the roadway prior to the interview along with all the other protesters.
The interview happened after.
But kinda telling of the 200 people they only identified and arrested her.
Note that they apparently didn’t arrest her when they saw her doing it.
They waited until when she was in front of a news cameras again because they wanted to make an example out of her.
Her actual ‘crime’ was organizing the protest.
The protest which was, as far as I can tell, entirely peaceful.
So… yeah.
That’s effectively a crime now.

The movement needs to go through this more naive phase and reflect on the results so that it can mature and adjust strategies. It’s easy to learn about history, see what finally worked in the past, and think that we should just ‘skip to the end,’ but that’s not how large groups of people operate. You can expect an individual to learn from history and do what’s most effective, but groups must always go through the entire process because the group infrastructure has to built brick by brick.

I… can’t really realistically argue against that, but goddamnit is that depressing.
I only said we have to go through the process, but there’s no reason we can’t speed it up or prepare better for the consequences. I think the role of those who learn from history is to work behind the scenes to soften the blows we know are coming to those who learn the hard way, and ease the transition from one phase to the next.
In more concrete terms, maintain solidarity even with people you think are making a mistake, and prepare for the moment they are ready to do more.

If you read the article, the violation occurred earlier. They just identified her and arrested her then.
It’s all bullshit obviously, but I doubt the case will be cut and dry if they decide to pursue.
They probably have video footage or her uncovered face in the roadway after being instructed to move. Or she may have been doing something to stand out, from others, like yelling, getting close to officers, or organizing.
Even when protesting against a better government, remeber to cover your face, especially if you plan to defy officer orders or do something more… extreme.
The protest she was being interviewed about had previously been marching through the street…

By “the Bundy standoff,” I assume you mean the occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge by Ammon Bundy and his followers? The event that law enforcement took an extremely hands-off approach to because everyone involved was white, and still ended up with one of the participants dead?
If the people who took part in that occupation had been anything other than rich, white, and strongly religious, they would have had tanks rolling in to clear them out.
If you’re talking about the other Bundy standoff, where Ammon’s father Cliven decided he didn’t want to pay to graze his cattle on public lands, lost every court case, and prevented the government from seizing his cattle by showing up with an armed militia… I don’t think a rich white sovereign citizen faces the same level of consequences from their actions as everyone else does.

As I understand, she was arrested as the organizer of an unplanned parade which blocked the road.
The optics are poor, but if you were impacted by the blocked road, you’d be celebrating this.
Fuck that, streets are for people. Walking in the street is good, actually, and the motherfucking cars are the interlopers.

Economies utilize roads. Average Joe driving to work is engaging in commerce and/or production.
And the boss will take it out of average Joe’s payif he is hourly. If he is salary he will have to make up the lost time. The company will feel no pain at all.
It appeared to me that she was on the sidewalk?? How you gonna say she was blocking the road when she’s on the sidewalk? Isn’t that where people are supposed to be?
What it said was that she was leading the protest, and both her and others had refused to leave the road when ordered. Likely this was by one or two cops. When they had to call more out, they arrested the people who had refused the order. At that point she was on the sidewalk, but they knew who she was.
A protest with no inconvenience is a parade, not a protest.
Yes, but who you inconvenience matters. Do it to the right people.
