I went to college in Ohio. I much preferred 30° and precipitating to 35° and precipitating, especially as a pedestrian walking to classes. Snow you can brush off before you go in, a cold rain just soaks in.

            1. I know. But It’s not enough to cause the panic it does gridlocking the city

            2. My point, which you missed, was that if people were staying in, there wouldn’t be enough cars on the road to gridlock the city due to idiots panicking over some slightly moist pavement.

But they just go home in the evening. The Fed gov’t feels no pressure to change. ICE will continue tomorrow as if nothing happened.

The movement is being sandbagged while Trump builds his personal army to crush any resistance.

Protests tank the economy and affect diplomatic relations. With enough organizational support they can also grow into strikes.

I can only speak for myself, but the types of responses you’re leaving in this thread are de-energizing. They’re a powerlessness narrative where nothing is good enough for you, so people shouldn’t even try. That’s how it comes across, whether or not that’s your intent. If you really want to help build the resistance, I would encourage you to take a different approach, because this one you’re using is doing the opposite.

It I were Trump I would arrest them all, annex Greenland and send all these people there to the mines.

How dare they rise up against my tyranny! Do what I say or I’ll send your whole family to the gulag!

Oh wait, that was Stalin. Ah well, I’m sure Trump will do the same eventually. That country is completely fucked up, I have no more hope. World War 3, then needs a complete rebuild. Just don’t you dare touch our Greenland, mthrfckrs!

Protests in Minnesota have been going on constantly every day in multiple places, the media is just hardly reporting on it. They are not small either. People have also formed entire network to monitor ICE and make sure that people can respond fast anywhere they go

Star Tribune has been covering these protests more than national news.

But yeah, early reports say 50,000 people, but the videos look much more like 100,000, and just in the main area.

Plus Minnesotans are actually organizing and they have rapid response teams to pick people up in the woods as ice beats them, tortures them, and then leaves them to die in -30C, often naked in the woods. Media doesn’t cover that either.

Plus, there are aid teams organizing food, diaper, and supply runs and distribution to at-risk population. A lot of people are working hard to keep people fed and alive while it is -30C outside

Plus they have ICE locating teams that follow ice as pass news on to different neighborhood when ICE is going there and pass out instructions.

Plus, smaller scale, but Minnesotans are starting to come out and have armed guards for neighborhoods against fascist occupation.

This is compared to in Texas and a lot of the South (famously “you can’t push us around, we all are armed”) where there was the most ICE activity for all of 2025, and they just bent over and took it while licking the boot on the other end.

The problem here, as in local to Minnesota, is it’s too local. It’s easy for authorities to gather enough resources for 1 city.

But Minnesotans are likely the only population that’s been brought to the breaking point just yet. (Trump spite for Walz, probably.)

Minnesota is one of the only states with large social protections, and is one of the most progressive States in terms of actual impactful policies. The MN Dem party also isn’t the US Dems. They are a seperate Democratic-Farmer-Labor which is significantly farther left than the center-right-wing dems.

Walz even tried to ban corporations from owning single family homes outright a few years ago (republicans blocked it then wonder why home prices soar)

That is why trump hates MN, and the fact that Walz ran against him.

im sure most of whats happening here isnt getting past the geofencing and content mods in regular social media. but they have not had enough resources to control even individual neighborhoods. even after bringing in more agents than the entire combined police force of the most populated metro area in the state. every increase in violance by ice drives more volunteers into community patrols. the administration cant subdue one medium sized midwestern city. they’re weak and its showing.

the administration cant subdue one medium sized midwestern city.

They’re not trying to. In fact, they are explicitly trying not to. The whole point of the rapid expansion of ICE, the untrained government thugs, the unlawful tactics, is to instigate violence. So Trump can declare martial law, and deploy the military against the citizenry. They’re not trying to hide it, Trump himself keeps talking about declaring martial law, there’s no reason to not be aware.

thats what they picked minneapolis for. expected some nice viral moments of vilent protests like we’ve had and a big show of force putting us down. an all they’re gonna get is footage of the ice director parancing around town at gas stations. if they send in the military, and yes i have zero doubt they want too. they have to know for a fact they have one willing too start shooting its own citizens. because they’ll have too. and trump backs his ass down off threats of that faster than he folds on attacks abroad. im not saying this isnt an active terror campaign. it absolutely is. armed men in masks have been stalking the grocery store i shop at the past three days. i know they want violance in return for that. im just also saying they are beatable with wistles and cameras.

The mainstream media isn’t doing justice about the protest here in Minneapolis. There have been protests at the Whipple building pretty much 24/7 since Renee Good was murdered. There were protest in North Minneapolis which resulted in ICE using an excessive amount of crowd dispersing gear and then getting their weapons and documentation stolen the same night. If the twin cities is this upset and they have very few undocumented people compared to other cities. I’m really hopeful that ICE will have even more trouble in other cities.

    I initially thought: Yes!

Then: Oh, it must be Saturday for this to be happening at all.

I checked the date. It’s not Saturday. In addition the weather is awful.

I came back around to: Yes!

Do protests need to be sustained to be effective? Of course. Widespread? Absolutely. Regardless, the standard guardrails on protest comfort we’ve witnessed thus far are broken here, in a good way. Cascade effects may follow.

The problem is if it remains local to one city, that’s easy peasy for authorities to squelch.

if they try to gerrymander their way to permanent power, blue states will continue their countermandering work. it seems like the republicans are trying to provoke a civil war, use that to justify suspending elections, and establish permanent power for themselves.

the key for us, the people, is that we absolutely must organize into collections of people power that have the resilience to defy all this. in Minneapolis, everyone is mobilized. it’s reached a point there where everyone is out in the streets defying ICE, supporting the people out there in some real way, be that recruiting, educating, feeding, keeping warm, or they’re tacitly in support of ICE.

this regime is offering everyone a simple, sadistic, choice. you can fight in civil war they want to enact, or you can die in the genocide that’s been in motion for 600 years. DC, Chicago, North Carolina, Los Angeles, and Minneapolis are becoming proving grounds of what does and does not work.

the biggest thing is organization and for organization we need recruitment. too few are active. so please, any fellow americans reading this comment, seek a local mutual aid project to work with. seek a community defense league. get out here and help us fight before there’s no fighting left to do

He’ll rig the election, or just declare himself the winner, and simply refuse to vacate the office or the White House, and count on Congress and the Supreme Court to back him.

If SCOTUS doesn’t back him, he’ll just ignore them, there is no mechanism to enforce their rulings.

He’ll probably be either dead or so far into dementia that he won’t even know his own name by the time his term closes.

Even the midterms don’t really matter even if free and fair, bills won’t pass at all anymore (Republicans will still have a third of the Senate, so vetos will stand) and the executive branch will keep on ignoring everything because the judicial branch already gave him a pass that only 2/3 of the Senate can hold him accountable for anything, and there is no midterm result possible that gets there.
