I prefer the Crooked Media shows, especially Pod Save America. But I usually check out the most recent MeidasTouch when I’m all cought up with my podcasts.

I’ve been listening to pod on an off for years. Quality is always there and they’re upfront about their positions so I feel like I’m listening to actual discussion, not someone trying to convince me. I need to check out MeidasTouch I guess

I used to listen to pod save America but got turned off in 2015. I’ve always felt they were too much of the pearl clutching DNC type. I like medias more than something like chapo trap house. I generally don’t like things that talk about current events though. The ones I like are just preaching to the choir and don’t really accomplish things for me.

Better title: “Pro-America podcast MeidasTouch dethrones shitty pro-donvict podcast in the charts”

I will say, before the election, i was watching them pretty hard. I dropped it for my own mental health after the election though. I wasn’t a huge fan of Ben Meiselas because he became more and more sensational but I really liked Michael Popoks legal commentary. I felt like Ben started shading into the tone and repetition patterns of the far right podcasters but either way, they both always had their facts straight and everything they said and predicted was backed by evidence and legal experience. Popok is a smart fuckin dude though.

Also, I’d say they’re “pro democracy” as that’s the line they always pushed unless it changed after the election.

If you want to ease into it just check out Popoks stuff as it’s way more objective. I learned so much about the legal/judicial system from him and it was all validated by other sources.

I’m still subscribed but otherwise I share your thoughts exactly. Is also how I heard of the gal defending Luigi, I really enjoyed her stuff with Popok. I still feel like I can’t get back into any of it anymore though. Like what does it matter if everything they say is factually accurate if at the end of the day the law doesn’t matter and facts don’t seem to matter.

womp womp, isnt that what the right wingers say… Only they originally said it about a story about seperating an “illegal imigrant” 10 year old girl with downs syndrome from her parents and keeping her in a cage, if I recall correctly. And then they refused to apologize for it.

They name it in the first sentence, and at least for me, given it’s longevity and word of mouth I know what Joe Rogan implies, but if you said “MeidasTouch” in the headline, I’d have no idea the implication of that shift, since I haven’t listened to either of the two.

If they just put the name I would have no idea who they are. Writing the full name plus “,an anti-Trump podcast” would be a really long title with extra info they get in the first sentence.

Wanting to stop at the headline is a bad habit. Just click the article and complain if the name isn’t right there.

Be that as it may, we know that the majority of readers wouldn’t read past the title. Knowing this, NewsWeek still decided to not include the name of the anti-trump podcast which dethroned Joe Rogan’s podcast. I think this is the bias that they are referring to.

Per the other comment, headlines. Internet dwellers read the headline to decide whether or not to read something. You can think of a headline as involuntary information injection.

So Newsweek wants everyone to see Joe Rogan’s name but not MeidasTouch.

By having a black female, the right can point to a single source when accused of being either racist or misogynist. No longer do they need to remember two separate podcasts to affirm they are neither racist nor misogynistic. That leaves them much more time to beat off to JRE and his clones and lesser offspring.

Podcasts are thinking for people who can’t read.

I’m making a rather cruel joke, but I do find some friends who struggle (lazy / busy, I’m not sure why) to read a news article I might share with them and, who will share with me some 20 sec Instagram clip with the words flashing up with Peterson or Rogan “slamming”, “owning”, “destroying” the libs. A quick Google usually dispels the quote or shows that the subject is not so simple.

I should also add I do listen to podcasts and radio and there’s nothing wrong with both.

Listen. It’s not just dumb voters. It’s a conservative propaganda vessel that funds any right-leaning talking points. It’s madness being poured into any willing ear, all it takes is a little fear to let them in. I want to believe that individual volition trumps this by-the-numbers propaganda, but the proof is in the pudding. Make people scared and isolated and you can make them believe whatever shit you want (at least, on a macro scale)

          And it’s everywhere!

Don’t trust the mainstream media they say, but these days Facebook, YouTube, instagram, etc have billions of users worldwide. Those are mainstream media.

So in a way they’re right, but they seem to think Facebook and YouTube are some hot new thing and they can be trusted because they’re not part of “the establishment” or whatever. Those of us who were around since the beginning saw the decline from cat-video-sharing-platform to propaganda outlet. Hopefully more people start realizing it.

            100%.

When I think about it for a while, my thoughts always come back to “What is truth? What is a fact? Why do I think my news consumption is more factual than this person’s news consumption?”

I’m not a philosopher, and I think it’s a tricky question to answer. I’ve found myself on the Stanford Philosophy Wiki. There’s a ton of good stuff in there.

Of course, on a practical level, you’re rarely going to be debating “what is a fact?” when you’re arguing with your MAGA relations. My “normal” answer is that I try to get my news from sources that have reputations for fact-checking / rigor (AP / Reuters etc etc).

However, if you’ve spent all your time consuming Fox / Newsmax / AM Radio in the late 90s / aughts, your mental model of AP / Reuters is not my mental model. Anything outside of your right-wing bubble is to be shinned. To you, AP and Reuters do not have a reputation for rigor. They’re part of a liberal conspiracy funded by the government and George Soros to demonize conservatives / brainwash the libs.

It’s a tricky problem. I feel like we’re in an era where the Dawn of the Internet / Social media is analogous to the advent of the printing press. We just don’t know how to handle the firehose of information.

There’s a huge part of me that thinks that recommendation algorithms need to be regulated.

Honestly, where it really breaks down for me is how they constantly portray other people as villains and tell you what their beliefs are.

There is no problem with gay rapists, immigrant murderers, trans baby-eaters, etc etc. No more than any other segment of society anyway.

I was taught not to always believe what others say about… others. If you want to know where someone stands, talk to them, don’t take a 3rd party’s word for it.

Although that doesn’t apply to people who confirmed super-liars.

You make a really excellent point.

Something similar is playing out with DOGE finding “waste” and “fraud.” Very little in the say if of evidence, much in the way of waving around papers at a press conference / shitposting on Twitter and screeching “Woke DEI spending has been slashed.”

Tbh, I get it. I understand why it works. Most people aren’t political junkies. Most people don’t really follow the news. They’re busy just trying to get through their day.

That said, I read a good comment once- “You might not care about politics, but politics cares about you.” I only wish more people understood that. Unfortunately, our economic system works against it.

Random aside, I wish we had strong labor unions in the US. They’d be very beneficial at this time.

Change conservative to liberal, right leaning to Democrat and you’ve just described MeidasTouch. They’re nothing but mouthpieces for the DNC. The way that people like Rogan were mouthpieces for the RNC.
