Did you watch the video of him sitting down? Yes, it is his ill-fitting jacket that spreads to his sides as he sits down. There is no ambiguity or doubt because the video clearly shows the couch before and while he sits down, and clearly shows the bottom of his jacket spread. He is not sitting on a towel.
We don’t need to make up things that didn’t happen in order to criticize Trump. There’s plenty of embarrassing, disgraceful, and (most importantly) real things that happen in the video, from needing a 3-2-1 countdown with aid in order to sit down on a couch, to getting talked to like a young child by everyone in the room.
