So I’ve started getting into fan cam footage from live band shows posted by some dude in Japan (Tokyo I think) which has exposed me to music/bands I dig that otherwise would have never, EVER crossed my radar (shoutout to q23 on Youtube)

This got me thinking: what other music could I discover by putting in ‘Live at [x]’, in the appropriate language, in Youtube (bonus points if someone can point me to another service or someone on Peertube or something)?

Will share my own venue list for Ottawa, ON Canada in the comments later today/tomorrow.

    Crystal ballroom in Portland. It’s upstairs and that will never not be hilarious to me. Beautiful venue though.

    The show producers Cercle had a series of techno DJ events at some amazing locations:

      I know it might be cliche but Massey Hall is probably my favourite venue I’ve been to. I’ve only gone twice but loved the venue almost as much as the shows themselves.

    The one that is the best to make a weekend trip out of is the Stone Pony Summer Stage. It is an outside stage next to the beach in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

    I’ve been volunteering at Milwaukee’s Summerfest this year and it’s a pretty cool place. Multiple venues from the largest the AmFam Amphitheater to several smaller stages.

    The only issue I really have with it, is with the stages all outdoors the sound quality is really bad for the most part. A couple of the bands have had a good Front House engineer that made the best of it though. Last night Kaleo finished out the Miller Light stage and they actually sounded pretty good. Never thought I’d listen to an Icelandic Blues band. Vertical Horizon was on earlier… Instamatic is just not the same without the Professor though. (FYI: Neil Peart was on the drums for the studio recording of that song.)

    An outdoor amphitheater that actually sounds great is the Riverbend on the east side of Cincinnati, right on the Ohio river. I’ve seen several concerts there back when I lived in that area. Santana, Live (the band), and even the Cincinnati Pops under Erich Kunsel played there and it always sounded great. The best was probably the Pops playing the 1812 Overture… They used REAL F$%$KING CANNONS! It was awesome.

    Will probably update as I think of more/add common genre family tags. If other Ottawans (the like between three or five of you I know are here) see this and want to add something, particularly for the defunct list, let me know.

    @History in Toronto

    Can very much agree. In the past couple of years I’ve seen Strumbellas, Band of Horses, Paul Weller, Echo and the Bunnymen…

    Superb venue.
