after that snowcrete we had here in the midlantic, I swore I’d never complain about the heat again. It’s tough, but I’m holding to my promise. (It’s only 98 out so far.)
Is snowcrete melted+refrozen snow?
It snowed a few inches, then sleeted on top of it for hours. The sleet caused the snow to compact, and by the time it was done, a shovelful of the stuff weighed 50 pounds. People were breaking it up with metal shovels and building igloos out of it. Big highway plows on dumptrucks were riding right over the top of it. The only way to move it was with those little skid steer things with shovels on the front. Even they would get jammed up under it and their front wheels would come off the ground.
Cities dug the stuff up and put it in dumptrucks and took it to places like the parking lots of sports arenas and piled it three and four stories high, and it didn’t completely melt until, like, May. I forget where it was, maybe Baltimore, where the snow/ice pile was so heavy it cracked the surface of the parking lot it was piled on.
Someone remarked that his yard looked like the Shackleton Expedition.

Oh, and this was in the midst of several days of overnight lows in the single digits and days in the teens.
Texan here. Winter used to be a nice break from our hot, humid, miserable summers. Now some years I don’t even need to wear a jacket. It’s just hot all year round now. I hate it.
I love snow!
The only season I can enjoy outside is Fall. Summer is too hot, Winter is too cold, and I get allergies in the Spring.
Fall is perfect.
Here in Australia I’m hosting a snow trip next week… there is still no snow in the mountains where we’re goin
Also f summer. Hayfever and bushfires suck
This is everyone in Arizona in the summer. “At least there is no windshield scraping!”
AZ people are delusional.
Ooh, Arizona, sounds exotic!
Where is that? Somewhere in Africa?
Peggy Hill was right
Phoenix is a monument to the hubris of man.
Phoenix and Vegas are competing for worst place to build gigantic cites.
*Everyone in Southern AZ
The high desert portions of the state like Flagstaff and Sedona get snow every year and aren’t nearly as bad as the Phoenix valley. It still gets pretty hot but it’s not the unmitigated hellhole of constant 100 degree days.
this has a mtg feel to it.
My name is Sam McGee.
I’ll take a heatwave over snow …
Well, yes, I am glad there is no snow.
Oh no, not the time of year where I don’t need to wear a bunch of layers and I can sleep outside without dying! What will I ever do? Maybe go for a swim? A bike ride? A hike? A barbecue? Beers in the park? How will I ever make it through this?
No its the time of the year where you cant go outside because 5 min after leaving you have a sunburn and are sweat drenched. Oh and insider your flat its way to hot… Even If you are naked. Climate change fucks us.
I wear sunscreen and really only sweat indoors, which is great because I don’t want to be indoors when it’s beautiful out.
There’s no limit to how many layers I can wear in winter, but there’s a limit to how many I can take off in the summer. Simple as
You don’t have a knife? They’re not nearly as expensive as a good coat.
Even with a knife scraping off everything that makes you human, you will eventually encounter a limit.
And eventually the coats will crush you, create their own weather system, collapse into a black hole. What’s your point?
There is definitely a limit to how many layers you can put on.
I’ve done undershirt - overshirt - jacket 1 - jacket 2 in the dead of winter. If the Sun vanished and the temperature plummeted to -100 I’m pretty sure i could figure out how to add a third jacket and then a blanket on top of that.
I mean a shirt, sweater, and insulated jacket can keep me very warm flying down a windy mountain at <-20C so do you really need that many layers?
Nah. Heat is way way better.
That’s like threatening a dog with a sausage.
