Your basic unit of agricultural land is the quarter-section, which is ~160 acres. Yeah, five or six quarters is appreciable, but modest. I know people with a lot more.
You don’t really get to be a farmer unless you inherit it, and then you have the option of selling and just being a normal millionaire. (Doesn’t stop farmers from considering themselves hard-working everymen, though)
Yea, I wanna be the salt of the earth farmer with hundreds of millions in assets and free handouts year round from the government. Have dairy, eggs and poultry quota on top that’ll have 100% guaranteed buyers. Always have some sections that I get paid Not to farm.
Then I can import temporary agriculture workers, work them below minimum wage instead of hiring locals and constantly bitch about “too many foreigners and end of The West” to my daughter-of-indian-immigrants family doctor and anyone unfortunate enough to interact with me.
