Didn’t they arrest someone for holding up a blank sign?
The last time I heard that happened was in the leadup to bizarre ritual where the country’s despotic unelected head of state took over from his dead mother https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/king-charles-protests-arrest-signs-b2165602.html
That was russia i think?
no that was uk, for protesting king charles iirc
edit: yes i did remember correctly https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/king-charles-protests-arrest-signs-b2165602.html
According to the article he wasn’t arrested, but essentially cautioned by the police to not write “Not my king” on the blank sign. Which was still not a lawful action, but also not arrest. An important distinction, even if you’re not a pedant like I am
There are videos of people in Russia, early in the Ukraine war, holding blank pieces of paper in public areas and suddenly being bundled into a nearby vehicle by several police thugs. Of course, there was no confirmation they were arrested, per se. They could have been picked up by Cash Cab, but it sure looked like something between arrest and full on disappearing
Kinda like the
GestapoICE agents being recorded in the US… ya know, I can see how it’d be easy to confuse one arrest with another, come to think of itThere were also reports of it happening here, among people arrested before the start of the demonstration.
I was always tempted to make a sign like that
clever loophole :)
