  • I think the difference in Germany is that you are required by law to make space beforehand. When you are in a traffic jam on the Autobahn, there are rules for how to make a “Rettungsgasse” (rescue alley). A few years ago they bumped the penalty up to 320€ and suspend your drivers licence for a month. This penalty isn’t only applied when you actually hinder an ambulance or the like, but when your actions could affect them in theory. I love that.

  • This is sadly a very common misconception, mostly due to the Nazi propaganda itself. The pre-war designs where mostly retrofitted civilian machines, the best example are the first planes they build. This was due to the restrictions to rearmament. After the war begun, the meth upped shitheads mostly threw material against every problem they faced (more money = less problems = more good). The result were monstrosities that broke down regularly. Another good example for the propaganda of “ze effizint Jerman Enjeniring” is the Autobahn. There was an Autobahn before. Hitler added some small parts and made sure he and his goons are photographed doing it. Boom, Hitler build the Autobahn.

  • I think the point of contention is, that the user you debate is under the (right) assumption, that when a child cries in public, this is just a small snapshot out of all the time the parents took them to any public place. A child crying is not a bug, it’s an inherent feature. They sometimes just do that, they don’t even know themselves, so it’s not the parents fault, that their mini-human isn’t behaving like a fucking Gucci bag. Everything volvoxvsmarla said is true, children learn through trial an error and yes, you need to sometimes take the brunt of this process, I’m sorry little one. When children don’t learn how to behave in (for example) supermarkets because you banned them, then you get teenagers who didn’t learn to behave. You can’t only pass the problem on forever. I’m a teacher and it really fucking shows when kids never learned how to exist in a public place.

BTW., this is not an excuse for parents who evidently don’t give a fuck or even worse, motivate their children to be brats so they entertain themselves. Scum of the earth. But it’s perfectly possible for parents to try their hardest and they still fail sometimes.

The left generally doesn’t like to talk much in these concrete terms […] < “Die Linke”, literally “The Left” is a German party which did exactly that. During the last election cycle they focused on all these points, specifically on the housing crisis and released an app where you can compare your rent to see if it’s against the law. After years of not making the 5% mark, Germany’s threshold to join the parliament, they got in! They “only” got 9%, but it’s a start.

  • I did the same, but I never had any negative interactions on .ml tho. The folks over on Hexbear are a different kind of strange, but harmless in the end, and of course you regularly read bullshit on all instances, but it’s just different tastes of shit, the ammount stays the same. After I switched from Reddit to Lemmy I started to encounter such a plethora of different opinions, it’s insane! :D If the deal is that from time to time I have to tolerate some idiot picking a fight about communism or Russia or Gaza or China etc., I gladly accept. One Thing you really have to give too all the tankies is that (on average) they are far more likely to cite sources for their claims. Do they do it so you can learn, or to smugly proof a point? I don’t care
