It’s for hide and seek. If you’re hiding behind the door, people can tell if it hits your body. It just sounds and feels different. All the real H&S pros use these.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL the American and Canadian political party colors are swapped.English
5·13 days agoI disagree that US colors are wrong or that we misapply “liberal”. The DNC is pro-corporate and dig their heels in on any meaningful reforms for healthcare, workers rights, etc. They correlate to other liberal parties.
The problem is that the only other party of relevance is far right, so we treat the liberals as “left” by comparison. They have some progressives because there is nowhere else to go and have a reasonable chance to get elected or even be on the ballot above the local level.
It’s true that the history of the color distinction only goes back to 2000, and the people that made the choice were unlikely to think about it this way, but I think at least the blue is appropriate.
That’s also why DSA is red.
In summary, just Overton Window things.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do all scam extensions hijack the default search engine to Yahoo?
0·13 days agoIt’s possible their intention is to represent themselves as the search engine, and the demographic they target lines up well with people that use Yahoo for search?
I wouldn’t be surprised to see some represent themselves as AOL either, for example.
Anything anyone old enough to not know what they’re doing will look at and think, “That’s the internet.”

I use both (not suggesting that). I mostly use Proton because it’s already included in my plan, and they seem to have more connections to choose from, but I frequently have to switch because the one I’m on starts to get really slow. I like Mullvad’s flat pricing and lack of commitment (they even accept cash), and it was an easier setup on Linux (at least Arch).
The awkward grammar in the book cover makes this image so funny to me for some reason.

It doesn’t aim to make enhancements beyond privacy/security specific ones. In that sense it’s more likely to give you issues with certain apps because of things like sandboxed Play services and apps not having access to the device identifier.
That said, I use it and if you’re OK with giving up certain things like Google Pay, then I recommend it.

I’m really more of a Valentina enema person.
