Australia@aussie.zone•‘Don’t kill music’: Anthony Albanese’s favourite bands beg PM to stop AI companies from stealing their workEnglish
1·1 day agoAnd what can we do?
Govts must enforce those laws. And as for us, I am not of a generation who knows enough about these issues (nor am I tech-oriented tbh) but I avoid using AI whenever possible. I ask those who know if it would be possible for artists to take class actions against corporations that are stealing their work. Also, these issues must be kept in the public arena consistently so awareness continues to grow and people demand options, transparency and protection for artists as well.

Australia@aussie.zone•The surprising factor shaping young Australians' family plansEnglish
4·2 days agoSupporting young Australians to achieve the families they hope for will require more than one-off payments or childcare subsidies.
It will also require rebuilding confidence in the institutions, economy and broader society that shape whether young people feel secure enough to plan for the future.
Can you see any of the current political set up doing that? Me neither. I reckon our only hope is for more young people who care about these issues to speak up not only in their own circles but more generally. Perhaps I’m being naive.

Australian Politics@aussie.zone•Vile abuse, targeted by Murdoch. The cost of speaking out against Israel - Michael West
0·5 days agoHere’s an article written by Sarah: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2026/jul/02/url-royal-commission-antisemitism-jewish-australian-supporting-palestinian-freedom-sarah-schwartz-ntwnfb
Amongst the many pertinent things she has to say are:
No government or institution can or should decide the boundaries of Jewish identity. But they can stop reinforcing the fiction that Jews and Israel are interchangeable.
When the Holocaust is used to police Jewish identity, silence those who bear witness to atrocity, or to recast allegations of mass violence as acts of persecution against the accused, it is hollowed of any moral force.
Instead its memory should be not only about what we inherit, but what we choose to do with that inheritance.
